I have to trave to see my GF and will have to help her and her granny out with shopping she lives about 26 miles. Away.

Am I actually allowed to do this now?

How will you be traveling?
If it is in your own car then it's fine.
If you use public transport then you could be questioned but if you can say it is necessary (offering support to an elderly person) then it's ok.

My son needs to pick up his GF on Wednesday morning if her plane is allowed to land at Heathrow. She'll be stranded alone in London otherwise. Does he need a copy of her plane ticket to prove he is picking her up? He is driving up in his car.

I’d take some proof in case challenged. The alternative is that she would have to use public transport which is a transmission risk if she is infected or puts her at increased risk of infection.

If your GF and her granny are reliant on you for their needs, they have no one else to support them or means to get the essentials in then yes you can still make the journey. However if you are thinking of travelling just to see your GF then no this is not allowed. Separate households should absolutely not mix at all unless absolutely essential

Problem is public transport has been seriously curtailed and London is practically in Lockdown.

Proof would be a good idea but failing that just make sure they have a way to contact each otehr (mobile numbers that work in the UK).
He should also be prepared for restrictions on entering the airport and he may have to wait outside or elsewhere for her, which is another reason it's a good idea for them to be able to commuincate.

My son has already printed off her Boarding Pass (which is a BA Flight) and is still hoping flights will be allowed back in tomorrow morning at stupid o'clock. I've just heard a plane going over my house (usually only hear those at weekends when the wind is to the East) so planes are being allowed back into the Country still. Boris hasn't said anything about airports being closed to British Nationals wanting to come home as far as I am aware.

He should be fine then.
I am due back in the UK in a couple of weeks and the current situation is that all British nationals are still allowed unrestricted entry to the UK.
There may be additional health screening at airports, and those coming from countries with high levels of infection may be asked to self isolate on their return, however this is not yet official and would technically be almost impossible to enforce.
But entry to the UK is not a problem at the moment.

That's good to know. My son's GF's plane took off about an hour ago. We will all be pleased when she arrives back home!
