I have 5 guinea pigs,

There are 3 girls in one hutch and 2 boys (brothers and together all there life so they get on great!)

The one boy (flash) knaws on the bars of the hutch ALL THE TIME!!

Does anyone else have this and does anyone know why he does it?

hi jon and welcome my boar casper does this its usually to get my sow tigers attention which most of the time she ignores lol

thanks for the welcome but I have been here 7 months!!

My boys and girls are quite close but i usually put a wooden block between them to stop them seeing each otherbut i suppose they could probably still smell each other, thanks! :d

I would try to stop him from doing this. My george broke his 2 top teeth chewing on his bars and trust me, I had to feed him by a syringe for 5 days every 2 hours and 3am in the morning and it is NOT nice !

My lad Sparky does this, I find its a way of getting attention when he really wants something he gets very impaitent and starts knawing on his bars until he gets what he wants- I refer to it as nagging

my hamster does it, I'm not entirely sure what she wants she has things to chew on...i always thought it was some kind of frustraition? hope not! x

If the girls are next to the boys that could be the reason he is chewing....he just wants to get to the girls. Even if you blocked them off, they can still smell each other.

I had one piggy (boar) that did the same, but he was an aggressive one that didn't like his hutch neighbour, another boar, so he would gnaw on the wood between them all the time until I separated him completely.
