l just found maggots?

Why are maggots in your piggie cage? Do you clean them out regularly? Did a rogue fly find its way into the cage? Yes you should be very worried you need to take your piggie(s) to the vet as an emergency as they may have flystrike which is very painful and needs prompt vet treatment or your piggie(s) may not survive.

I just found maggots in my pigs cage should I be worried?

Please deep clean the cage including hard furnishings and scrub thoroughly them. Wash any fabric at least at a minimum of 60 C / 140 F. Check your piggies for fly strike (flesh eating maggots), which can be fatal in the advanced stages and see a vet as a life or death emergency at any time of the day or night if they have them: Fly Strike

Flies can lay eggs in a cage or hutch that are not flesh eating, but you do not want to have either variety around; it can happen to anybody.

I see a wild rabbit with fly strike on the face. Nasty nasty sight. It had mixamitosis

Please don’t be embarrassed. It can happen but please deep clean as soon as you can as fly strike is a horrible illness. If you suspect then please see a vet asap! Hope your piggies are okay xx

Hope your piggies are OK. Please see a vet asap. l had a rabbit many years ago who had flystrike, not nice at all. He did make a full recovery after being rushed to the vets.
