I've got a lactating sow nursing 4 pups aged 6 days.

I'd not handled her for 2 weeks before they were born as carried her to/from garden in her igloo to avoid pressure on her belly. I had noticed a bald patch on her back last week but the skin wasn't sore or inflamed. Today I noticed her scratching and biting under her front legs so lifted her to have a look and she immediately bit me. I then noticed further hair loss on her belly and her skin very obviously sore and inflamed, they were several open/scabbed sores above and below both her front legs. I've gently rubbed in some tea tree healing cream for now as I normally treat my pigs with Xeno but as it warns against using on pregnant/nursing sows and very young pigs i'm really not sure what to try next as an alternative?

Any ideas? I'm also concerned that her young pigs could also be infested now or in the future. Should I seperate them this early?

:( not really sure what to do for the best ? Help/Advice anyone ?

Hi,

I would not seperate at this stage, there are various products available on the market but I have only used them on pregnant sows with no problems.

I think I would speak to a vet it may be possible to give her an injection that is safe. I'm sure they would be able to come up with something and also be able to test for ringworm as well as mites.

Good luck

I would talk to a vet about meds as I don't know, sorry. With regards to the pups they are probably already infected so there is no reason to seperate them from mum it will not do them much good to not be able to have milk.

my ginea pig had that but he died but i did take him to the vet he had hair loss they gave him a antibotic oraly so you might want to take him in soon dont waste time at all
