I've got a lactating sow nursing 4 pups aged 6 days.
I'd not handled her for 2 weeks before they were born as carried her to/from garden in her igloo to avoid pressure on her belly. I had noticed a bald patch on her back last week but the skin wasn't sore or inflamed. Today I noticed her scratching and biting under her front legs so lifted her to have a look and she immediately bit me. I then noticed further hair loss on her belly and her skin very obviously sore and inflamed, they were several open/scabbed sores above and below both her front legs. I've gently rubbed in some tea tree healing cream for now as I normally treat my pigs with Xeno but as it warns against using on pregnant/nursing sows and very young pigs i'm really not sure what to try next as an alternative?
Any ideas? I'm also concerned that her young pigs could also be infested now or in the future. Should I seperate them this early?
not really sure what to do for the best ? Help/Advice anyone ?
