I've had my three pigs for a fortnight now and feeling that I need to get into a more balanced diet re their vegetables. I've mainly been making sure that they are eating fine and trying to work out what they like and what they don't, but thinking that they're probably getting too much Vitamin C at the moment. Also, for reasons of cost and efficiency I want to try and nudge part of their veggie diet in the direction of things that I actually eat aswell! With this in mind, one of my favourite salad leaves is lamb's lettuce but I can't see it (maybe I've missed it) on the food list (in either the bad or good section). Does anybody now if lamb's lettuce is something that guinea pigs can eat, and if so is it something I can feed regularly or just an occasional treat?

Edit: it may come under 'lettuce: other' and be okay, but is it perhaps too high in Vitamin A?

I occasionally give my piggies lambs lettuce in the mixed salad leaves bags you can buy and they love it.

All lettuce (apart from iceberg which shouldn’t be fed at all) is fine to feed daily in small quantities :)

I have heard lambs lettuce is a little high in calcium. My pigs dont like it anyway

I do occasionally give mine lambs lettuce.
It falls under the category:
“What do you mean there isn’t anything else? Okay then, we’ll eat it”

Romaine lettuce, on the other hand, is practically inhaled

Conflicting reports then - obviously depends on the guinea pig whether they like it or not! I'll give them a little bit to see how it goes down and then just maybe give them some occasionally.

I have found that green beans comes under the category of "I shall eat this if the alternative is starvation". Watercress, basil, celery, cucumber and spring greens are generally liked but will be left until last if there's something better in the offing. Peppers, dill, parsley, coriander and kale are highly prized. Broccoli and asparagus were deemed as my attempt to poison them - which is just as well as I don't like them much either!

Mine only get lettuce once a week, I alternate between red little gem, and lambs lettuce. My lot absolutely love it, but then, my lot arent fussy and will eat pretty much anything with a couple of exceptions (Leonard refuses to believe tomatoes are edible :lol!:)

Mine can’t stand coriander - but then neither do I.
They love dill and parsley.
Mint and basil were greeted with suspicion.
Green beans go down faster than you can say green bean. Chard is also popular.
Pak Choi - depends on whether it’s the day they like it or not!

Coriander is the work of the devil :gd:(at least as far as I'm concerned)

I reckon their favourite thing to eat at the moment though is their wooden house...

:agr: About the coriander.
Whenever we go out to an Indian restaurant I’m the one saying ‘no coriander please’ in anything!

Can they eat kale everyday as there getting bored of fresh greens? Thank you

Have you got a garden? Cut some fresh grass for them. Make sure you wash it well in case a cat or dog as wee'd on it.
