Hi! I’m a relatively new owner to two boars. Patches (the older one) and Carmal (the younger one). I have the proper size cage for two boars so don't worry! Patches will come up to the cage door to eat from my hand. He will also let me stroke him. Carmal will go about his business. He will not let me stroke him. On rare occasions, he will take some veggies from my hand. I only had them for a few months and I’m aware that isn’t long. I’m really pleased with the results so far. I have heard many other guinea pigs owners talk about lap time. When they talk about it their piggies seem to love it. I’m aware that all piggies are different and I may not get a lap pig! The one time I did try to handle them they were so terrified that I stopped. I don’t know if they just don’t like lap time, or if it was because it was their first time. I also know that lap time can help tame them. My question is this: Should I do lap time now? Or should I wait until they get more comfortable with me?

Thank you in advance!

Hi!

The majority of piggies prefer a shorter cuddle when you give them the choice. Lap piggies is more of a human concept than a piggy one, so please don't feel you are missing out on something. You are developing a lovely interactive relationship with them, which for them is more important and crucial, because it is something trust-based they give to you freely.
