Hello,

I recently adopted (rescued) a couple of baby piggies (about 12 weeks old). I have had them on my lap a few evenings and have a few questions on their behaviour...

They have been quite shy and still so I have been following tips like using one finger to stroke them, quiet room etc. Today though was weird.. I was stroking them and all was fine, they had some food by them in case they wanted it etc. But all of a sudden my 2 girls started squeeking at eachother and they became really active?!

Also when I stroke one on her back she 9/10 times starts eating, but doesn't otherwise?

Please give me advice on whether this is them getting braver or are annoyed by me? I got it in to my head that they were talking about how annoying their mum is haha! I don't want to upset them or cause them to bite me etc!

Thanks in advance!
Sarah

Hi Sarah...congrats on your new guinea pigs and thank you for choosing adoption, what a wonderful path.
I think they just really love how your petting them (though I'm not 100% sure).
Squeking and chirping is a great sign, it means your guinea pigs are happy (or hungry hehe xx)
When I stroke my boar's back when he's eating hay, he suddenly pop corns and then seems to eat faster lol similar to yours.

Hi! They are getting braver. Babies at that age should be wiggle monsters struggling to sit still for long or to shut up for long. ;)

Petting can start instinctive chewing. I use this reflex especially when syringe feeding piggies that are completely off food.

Thank you so much both, you have really reassured me!

Makes such sense as babies they should be wiggling around! I do love hearing them chirp :)
