These lovely guinea pigs are not keen on laptime;

They have a blanket to hide under or a strawberry hide to go into (which they do after a bit). They really are not enjoying it at all. I keep it quite short and offer them yummies like corriander, grapes and greens. They never eat.

So today laptime was 'Jingle and Mistletoe in their strawberry hide next to me on the sofa' time. Jingle did pop her head out and ate half a grape and some carrot tops. Mistletoe sat facing me (Jingle hid her face) so we will see. PATIENCE I keep telling myself. After all they have only been with me 11 days.

Belle is still not super keen on lap time and she's super tame. Now she's always looking towards the direction of the cage because she's paranoid her friend won't be there when she gets back. Not tried getting the friend out yet because she's so timid. I would say that's pretty good for 11days. My original pigs took a couple of months to lose the 'scared face' at lap time.

That's encouraging. Thank you.

Early days, don't stress it. You will get there. Cookie and Treacle were the same we had to use cosies for them. Vimto (big bitey pig) took forever too, but will now sit for 5 mins or so before tugging at my clothes (or flesh) to go home :)) Little and often time wise and keep going with those treats.

Jingle and Mistletoe are stunning :drool:

Thank you for your encouragement sport billy. I take them out every day and try to keep it short and sweet.

They are really glorious aren't they? I feel extremely lucky. You should see them with their new fleece forest, pushing in and out of it and pop corning. Enough to make you feint with cuteness.

I was reading old posts and I was amazed for the similarity of my Calipso with your Mistletoe, not only for their fur, but maybe also for their personality... my piggies are still shy after some months here with me and taking them out of the cage or out of their houses is always a "fight". Then they love relaxing on my lap, but Calipso has a great temper... she often prefers not being touched, sometimes she wants to stay in balance on my arm (like a parrot!). But she is so funny! After months I still need to walk very slowly in the room where they often move free, but they both come close to me when I come home with their (huge) ratio of fresh grass ... they start squeaking when I am still out of the door :luv:
We need patience... and maybe our piggies are only a bit "wild"! maybe it is a side effect of the grass...:))

They are so alike arent they?! I love the name Calypso. Both mine are still very very unkeen about being picked up. Jingle will tooth chatter like crazy. Squistles just squeals LOUDLY.

They also have fresh grass every day. I love all your fleece patterns. I have got loads of fleece now. Must make new liners. Using newspaper under their liners at the moment.

Same story here... and for the last two days they have been making a fool of me: when floor time is finished (at midnight sometime!) I try to take them out of their house. They wait for my hands, then they run off from the window and wait for me under the table; I go there,I bend on my poor knees, as soon as I am next to them (walking on four legs with all the treats in hand) they run again into the house and the game starts again... :twist::twist:
SOB!:soz:

I am delighted to say that both Mistletoe and Jingle will now sit on my lap with no hidey and chomp away on lettuce, cucumber or apple.

Jingle has been doing this for sometime. Mistletoe did it for the first time today. I feel so delighted. Giving them baytril (with organic apple juice) has forced me to hold them every day without fail and has really helped.

I hold them at the same kind of time each day so that they know when to expect it. They no longer need a hidey to go into but will stand to be picked up (usually).

Jingle lets me slowly brush her (awww);

Mistletoe is much shyer but squeaks less than she did when I pick her up;

wow! such a brilliant result, indeed!!! a great satisfaction for you!:luv:
I think you could go on with some apple juice even when Baytril treatment is over. I guess you are using a syringe... and there is nothing bad to syringe them with a bit of water and apple juice, so that they will not lose the habit to be fed that way.
I am using a syringe for the vit C supplement and some drops of water mixed with cranberry juice; now they have learnt the typical noise of the syringe on the glass and recognise also the test tube I use for mixing the ingredients! Yesterday evening Calliope jumped on my lap as soon as she saw the glass and then "stole" the syringe from Calipso's mouth! ahaha! I hope to be able to make a video one day!
How is Mistletoe going on with her breathing?

Mistletoe has not had a single breathing issue since she returned from the vets!

They are both so contented and sweet and pretty. I am truly besotted.
