I dunno wt to do..

Been to the vets a few times because if it , first time to diagnose the lump which they told me its a cyst and to ignore it. I then went back because it had grown and they said to drain it would be an endless battle, just monitor it. Then it grew again & leaked so i went back and they said that unless its causing big problems just ignore it because if we drain it itl just refill, and its a very big risk to remove it because she might not pull through the op...

What do i do?

What can i clean it with?

& Am i just being *fobbed off*...should she be on antibiotics or something?

I have my baby in 9weeks so need to get this sorted soon :{

- I dont mean that in a 'i dont care manner' i just mean if it times wrong with the baby coming i might have to get someone else to do basic health care treatments)

Hi Becky, whereabouts are you?

Cysts can be lanced and drained, they don't necessarily need to be removed - just lancing it can be done without a general anaesthetic, it is a very quick job. Cysts can refill, they can also burst; given it is growing I would be inclined to find someone who will lance and drain it, and if it continually refills very quickly then further options could be considered.

There shouldn't be any need for antibiotics unless there's signs of infection e.g. redness/heat. :)

Just to add = looking at it today it looks scabby , could it have burst or she might of knocked it ?

if it was me i would get a second opinion ive just had a bad experience an i wouldnt want the same to happen to you or your piggie x x x x x x

My Pippa has just had a sebaceous cyst on her side drained. The vet made a small cut with a scalpel and squeezed out the gunk. I flushed the wound for around 10 days or so with hibiscrub and she was on a course of Baytril (just to be on the safe side I think) She healed well and *touch wood* has been fine. The vet advised that it although she doesn't expect it to, it may refill in time, and if so we'll take it from there..

Pippa's didn't really change in appearance though and didn't seem to grow over time, although it was probably the size of a small marble when it was drained.

I'd be tempted to get a second opinion if you're not happy with what your vet is telling you.

Good luck with your piggy (and baby :) )

Ive just read this :

''If cysts are left to grow, eventually they will burst open and there will be a huge crater which obviously is more likely to become infected. There is no other option than to have all the debris that is commonly found in large cysts, removed under local anaesthetic and the wound sutured''

Will my piggy survive a local anaesthetic:{:(

I guess it depends on the age and general health of your pig. How old is she?

I'm sure someone had a cyst in a similar place only a week or so ago. I'll try and find the thread...
