Eva, a sow of 5+years has lost some weight which is slowly going back on with supportive feeding. Took her to the vets where she had her front teeth trimmed(due to earlier problem) also the vet could feel a thickening of the large intestine. She was a bit vague as to what this could mean only that it could be something sinister. Eva is going back on Thursday for another check up to see how things are progressing. The teeth don't concern me , it's the intestine-has anybody any experience of this. She's currently on metacam, ranitidine and cisapride. Many thanks.

My Pili Pala has been diagnosed with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) with thickening of her lower bowels in the wake of her GI stasis in October. She is on similar medication although my vet has asked me to hold off on the cisapride for as long as possible and to keep her on metacam, zantac (ranitidine) and emeprid for the time being unless there was a major deterioration.
Unfortunately the best medication for this are steroids, which cannot be given to rodents as they slow down organ function, so treatment for this issue is by necessity limited. :(

Just as point of interest, does your little one have a different food or not have specific food items, thanks

I am trying to follow the IC diet with staying off root veg and very sugary foods, but it doesn't seem to make any major difference, to be honest. Pili is too fond of her extra mushed pellet feed to help keep her low weight steady for me to have made a successful to grain-free pellets.
