We just got our first guinea pig about a month ago and he got a small scab on his nose I thought he may have rubbed in on his cage but it has grown in size. Also his ear is having problems. I took it to the pet store we got him from and they gave us medicine for mites. Just wondering if it is mites or something else.

Hi! It rather looks like ringworm (a fungal infection) to me. Mites medication (ivermectin/selamectin) can to a certain degree suppress or at east slow down ringworm, but it cannot heal it.
Please see a proper vet for a proper diagnosis and treatment. You can reclaim the vet cost from the shop since the shop has given you the wrong treatment and a misdiagnosis and therefore not only sold you damaged ware but then compounded it by giving you incorrect treatment; you have recurred to the shop with the problem within the stated time limit.
Be however aware that pet shop personnel is very often not up to scratch and should not be asked for advice. :(

Please be aware that ringworm is single most transmittable issue between all mammals, including humans and other species pets. Good hygiene and a vet strength disinfectant that is also active against fungal and ideally kills the thousands of ringworm spores that are shed are a must. Please take the time to carefully read our guide to get on top of it once and for all. We have learned all our tips the hard way; that is why they work.
Please also make sure that you get some nizoral (anti-dandruff shampoo for yourself and wash yourself with it on the whole body to prevent coming down with ringworm yourself. It is quite harsh on the skin, but it will hopefully do the trick.
