Have just come back from holiday to discover my long haired guinea pig Morrissey has a huge lump on her side. Its not a mammary gland i dont think or near her bum its more on the side inbetween her front paw and hind leg. It had been disguised by her very long ginger locks it is howver roughly the size of a ping pong ball and has a large black scab on it. The skin looks inflammed and crusty and slightly bloody. Poor thingy =[. I have made a vets appointment but i was just wondering if you guys had any experience/ advice/ seen it before and was wondering what i can expect. Shes 4 1/2 years old roughly I think as i adopted her so I'm concerned that she won't have the stamina for surgery. Will post pictures once she stays still. Shes still eating and drinking and moving though which i hope is a good sign . Eyes and ears are clear. Thank you so much guys for reading this
xx

It could be a sebbaceous cyst but I am not sure it looks like it. It looks more than a fatty lump though so you are right to get a vet appointment. Does she seem in pain at all?

I am no expert but was your guinea pig kept by herself whilst you were on holiday. Did she have any cage mates that could have bitten her? Has she has any sebeacious cyst problems in the past? I have just see Helen's reply. Helen helped me recently when my 4 year old developed a cyst.

Helen: No she doesnt seem to be in pain i have handled her and she was fine not even a squeak when i pulled back the hair to examine it. The size though just looks uncomfortable for her
val of york: My guinea pig does have a cage mate for the 3 years ive owned her but they have never fought before but it could be a possibility. Not as far as i'm aware. She did have a wart on her nose but the vet told me that was a harmless aethestic thing. Its still there but it never bothers her and it hasnt grown in size or become irritated.

I agree with Helen that it looks more like a fatty lump. Can you tell if it is attached to the body or if it is more in the skin? Is it soft or hard? It's good that there doesn't seem to be any pain. Could the scab and blood be from Morrissey scratching or biting at it? A visit to the vet is the best thing to do; they'll be able to give you a proper diagnosis, but if it is a fatty lump surgery may not be necessary.
