Hi all, so I had my very first wheeking courtesy of Ted this morning, he made me jump
He was wheeking and going crazy sniffing at the bars the only thing is that I was in the middle of making a homemade lasagne for dinner tonight does he thinks his Garfield? :D Has anybody else's piggies done this?

I have been trying a new method for the past few days of giving them the silent treatment I haven't been handling them at all, when I pick them up for their run I do it via the tube or pouch and I've pretty much kept my interaction to a minimum...... It's working! Ted especially has gotten braver watching me clean the run of a morning rather than scuttling into his pouch, they have both started running riot for most of the day too :D

No matter how cute they act though they are not getting lasagne :D

Mines wheek EVERY time i come in the room.. Crunchie in particular erupts into full blown ear flapping mode everytime, whereas the others quetly mumble with noses in the air.. The errupt when they smell veggies!

They do this regardless of the time of day, even though they only get veggies morning, dinner and bedtime.

They all go mad if i have a chinese takeaway though!

It's the first time I have heard it from my two, I've only had them for a week and half they are very shy piggies who still scamper away even when I'm bringing them their veg, that's why I was so surprised when he stayed out in the open wheeking for the smell of lasagne :D really made me laugh reading yours wheek for Chinese, so does my hubby

As you are a new piggie owner I will offer you some advice.
Whilst you were cooking the lasagne (which sounds lovely by the way) did you open the fridge at all?
Or did you touch the fridge?
Or walk past the fridge?
Or think briefly about the fridge in any way?

If so, this is cause enough to set your guinea pigs off wheeking.
At least it is in our house anyway.

Glad to hear your new piggies are settling in well.

My piggies wheek each time they hear the fridge, but they only wheek when I walk by if it's close to veggie time. During those times of the day, they will wheek at pretty much any sound or movement at all. :P When I clean their cage, I dump the soiled hay and poop into the garbage can, then I give them fresh hay. Now they wheek each time I throw anything at all away, or if I rustle any bags that sound even a little bit like the garbage bag. They always get excited at the possibility of food. :P

:lol!:

Nope I was nowhere near the fridge, I was literally in the middle of making the cheese sauce. I can't wait for them too start wheeking every time I'm near the fridge etc!:D
