My two long hairs are cut and bathed monthly to prevent tangles and matts but I leave them long during the winter and just trim the edge. Here are the before and after shots!

P.s if you are considering long hair pigs, make sure you have the time and commitment to keep them comfortable and clean.

:D You could make another guinea pig with all those hair clippings! I think they do feel better when long-haireds have had a cut. They are glad to be rid of all that weight for a few months, I think. I know my Sheltie Bonnie popcorns a bit more after a trim.

Bit like the L'Oreal ads.......Cos they're worth it:love:. I groom and trim the long haired piggy that belongs to some of my neighbours as they don't feel up to doing it themselves. He makes a big song and dance about it, but seems happier afterwards!

Aww, gorgeous photos! I love long haired guinea pigs and honestly don't mind the maintenance. It can be a bit of a hassle if the piggy in question doesn't like having fur trimmed, but overall it's really not a big deal for me. ^_^

I'd love another Texel or a Peruvian.

Aww, was it an ordeal or did you manage to get away with it?

Oh they hate every second of it! I've had them from babies though so they are used to it, I burrito wrap them in a towel so only their bottom is showing and bribe them with a carrot or some grass and hold them still. They don't like the 'snip' noise of the scissors so if you do it quietly, they do not mind too much.

Bathing they love though but it sounds like I am murdering them when I try them off with the towel!

It has to be done otherwise their hair wraps around their back legs and gets tangled and matted and they smell awful!

They definitely feel better I think, their hair gets so long that it drags on the floor and they catch it on their legs, poor things!

They do like to protest! I've never heard such a racket that mine make when I dry them off with a towel. Anyone would think I was trying to murder them.

Really cute pictures ,I have two texel and a peruvian , haven't bathed the texels yet as they are young but my peruvian gets a dirty back end so he has had two baths ,noticed the long haired boars get hair trapped in their tinkle parts, I gently get it out should I cut the hairs round there?:woot:

Oh I'm not sure, mine are girls so I have never had to worry about that issue! I'm sure someone else will be able to answer for you!

great pigtures and what lovely long haired piggies. Will be a while yet till our shelties need a trim, but they are due a wash. Will be a first for us to attempt a piggie bath and I hope mine will go as well yours appears to have!

Oh my! So much fur, still gorgeous after a trim  You could make some gloves with the left over :))
