Oh Laura, I'm so sorry to hear about Tuppy. Take peace knowing she is no longer suffering xx

Laura I've just logged on to check what sort of night you and Tuppy had and I'm so very sorry to hear you have lost your beautiful girl. I know nothing I say will ease the pain you are feeling at the moment, but just remember that Tuppy had a fantastic life with you and your gang and that you were a very special caring mum doing everything in your power for your special girl, right up until the end. Small consolation I know, but at least she was with the people and piggies that loved her when her time came to cross RB.

Sending mega hugs from us all. Sandra

I have posted in RB too but just wanted to add to what the others have said, Tuppy was most fortunate to have you looking after her.

Thank you too for your advice to others when they need help and stay strong.

I was hoping not to bring this thread back up so blimmin' soon.

I got over one problem already since we lost the two poorly girls. Meghan bit Willa on the eye a day after they arrived here, leaving Willa's eye cloudy, bloodshot and sore with a noticeable 'scratch' on the eye. First eye problem I have had to deal with. Luckily that cleared up very quickly with the use of Optrex Infected Eyes chloramphenicol drops, and no need to see a vet/Vedra at all.

Now there is something not quite right with Jasmine. Two days ago (Jan 20th) she had trouble walking. She was bunny-hopping her back legs, but sometimes walking normally albeit within a very limited range (more like waddling I guess). I gave her a dose of Metacam after examining her, finding nothing, so I was thinking she may have hurt herself the night before (Jan 19th), as she had been chased by Meghan. (Yes Meg is something of a devil pig, hence why she no longer lives with Willa and Jas). Jasmine was also sensitive to touch around the inside of her back legs a day prior to this (Jan 18th), but again no injury found.

Yesterday she was back to normal, but today she has slowly progressed to bunny hopping and restricted hind leg/hip movement again. Something I have noticed also today is that her poops are very small and there aren't very many, despite her average appetite. The poops are very moist though, not at all dry. Could the two problems be related? Is it reasonable to think that a digestive condition could also cause the difficulties in moving?

She has what appear to be intermittent UTIs (only symptom is squeaking when peeing/pooping, but she does this only maybe three times a day - so not with every pee/poop - and it only flares up once every few weeks), but these UTIs don't clear up for long. She was xrayed for stones a year ago and was clear, but I will get her xrayed again soon to check again.
She has been known to have a creamy, white-ish substance on her poops, though this hasn't happened for quite a while, and for the past year or so she has had occasional small amounts of mucus-y gloopy stuff sticking to her poops. Is lack of fluids (not dehydration..just not quite enough fluids) a possiblity?

Other than this, she is eating and drinking fine, seems happy and not in pain. Obviously if she needs a vet/Vedra, she will go straight away. But having just paid for two £90 cremations, and with a vets bill of £110 for Tuppy's two emergency visits yet to pay, plus a house move coming up, things aren't so good financially. :...

This is exactly how Ginger went. The movement, very stiff and limited movements in her hips, whitish colour on her small poops. The vet only ever diagnosed arthritis and the other vets I took her to didin't even want to waste their time on her and said to put her to sleep, which is why I nursed her at home. If you do manage to find out the cause I'd be grateful if you could let me know. I do hope it is nothing serious.

It seems we are dealing with a gas problem. Her belly became distended and sensitive, very tight, springy like pressing a balloon. I don't think it's stasis, as there are poops, some full and healthy, some small and fairly dry. An intestinal blockage or tortion is a concern, but again there are poops, so it's not as likely as simple gas. I hesitate to call it bloat as she does not have the full symptoms of bloat.
She doesn't have any weight loss, she is eating well and her eyes are bright and normal. She is moving pretty well again now. She has always been a little gassy, very noisy guts (often very audible gurgling), so it is not a surprise that she has come down with this.

Dehydration or lack of fluids is something I'm treating, as I believe a lack of fluids can lead to a degree of gas. To treat the gas I picked up some Infacol - simethicone - and found on Guinea Lynx that the dose is 0.15ml two or three times a day. For now I am dosing three times a day and will decrease it as we see more improvement. Abdominal massage has proved important, helped her pass some healthy poops, move things along in the guts and audibly released some gas!

The treatment routine follows:

Morning
0.15ml Infacol
10ml Dioralyte
Abdominal massage

Mid-morning
0.1ml Metacam

Afternoon
0.15ml Infacol
10ml Dioralyte
Abdominal massage

Teatime
0.1ml Metacam

Evening
0.15ml Infacol
10ml Dioralyte
Abdominal massage

I am sticking with the Metacam for extra pain relief. I checked that Infacol does not interact with other meds, which it doesn't.

Another over-the- counter med I am hoping to get hold of today is Buscopan. Peter Gurney and the CCT recommend it for relaxing the gut and helping digestive issues, so I will get some in and then work out if/how best to work it into the treatment. The Infacol/simethicone is definitely helping so I'm reluctant to give that up at this stage, but the Buscopan would be useful to try to see if it is helpful.
