Hi
Quick question, with the nice weather in London I have been gradually introducing my GPS to lawn time in their outside run. They have quite a large enclosed space on the lawn. Do I need to give them hay as well or will the grass be enough? They seem to be eating it well but I just wonder if they need supplementary food as well. The grass is about an inch tall. Thanks x

Grass is the best food a guinea pig can eat. Wears down teeth and is full of fiber and vit c. So don't worry about hay at lawn time

I think it's really depends how long they are outside. I feel hay helps thir digestion. I take mine out in a pet carrier which they use in the run to sleep in when they have eaten enough grass. I line the carriers with newspaper and a layer of hay which they can eat and snuggle in.

The only thing I put out with them is a bottle of water. I don’t know if they drink much but I like to have it there. But I don’t put hay out with them. I'm not sure they would eat it. What I do though is to cut out veg if they’ve been on grass for hours. They usually come in KOd and have a snooze 😍

Thanks everyone. I put out water as well. They are out again today in the lovely weather. Their familiar hideys are out there and they have a 6ft x 4 ft metal roofed run . I have pegged a blanket over the roof for shade and so they feel safe, but they tend to go straight into their hideys and stay there! Is this normal? They have been living inside since we got them in October. Do you think they will realise that they are not going to be eaten by an eagle if they step out of their hideys? !

Mine took a little while to get used to being outside @Idag but they love it now. Nugget went out for his first time last week, he hid for a bit but when he realised his older cage mate was eating the floor he soon got the hang of picking his own grass and hasn't looked back. Keeping the top of the run covered is a good idea it will give them some security as well as shade.
