I buy itlian style salad bags from asda for my pigs and just wondering if it is any good for them.
it has- escarole leaf
lollo rosso
frisee
radicchio
rocket

in it

can any body tell me if this is ok for them.

my piggie has just been diagnosed with a bladder stone today and was just wondering if i shouldnt be giving them this stuff.

i need to give them a calcium diet, i have been giving them celery, carrots, cucumber, banana skins, grapes, broccolli, lettuce ( not iceburg) plenty of grass and hay

has he got this stone for eating this kind of food?

I am blaming my self.

sorry to hear about your piggy, i think feeding too much of one food can lead to things such as stones, but i should imagine even those with a good balanced diet do get stones and what not, don't beat yourself up about it hun just try and get the diet right for him now.

there is a shopping list in the stickies, and its really good have a look on there and maybe widen the variety in his diet, and of course what your vet says is best :)

i have tried them with different kinds of foods like strawberries, melon, cress, peppers, banana,

but they will not eat them

have you tried cabbage, kale, brocolli, peas, corn.. I'm not sure if they are rich in calcium though.. :S

have tried spring greens( high in calcium) like a little bit
broccoli they like a little bit that is moderate calcium
peas i havent tried, string beans they like
corn they dont like
and kale, well i cant find that in any shops.

tesco usually have bags of kale, and morrisons do sometimes.

mine prefer brocolli staslk to the flower.. as for garden peas in pods I'm not sure when they go out of season but morrisons and tescos do them in bags.

have you tried peppers? they are a good source of vit c too.

brussel sprouts? mine are not keen on them though

Kale is available in Tescos in the cabbage section it is bagged like lettuce. :) Mine like peppers, carrots, cucumber, celery and all the usual stuff.

Cazza I was told that although all piggies need calcium in their diet from fresh foods I should avoid things like kale and parsley, which are particularly high in calcium, with my bladder piggy.

It's rare I give it too. Mine like cabbage but only twice a week. They hate spinanch and I hate the smell it's horrid! I think just give everything in moderation, swap it around and that will be fine. Basil is another one that stinks! God I hate it! :D

i think piglopedia has an calcium ratio index that tells u which foods are high risk and low risk for stones... its very interesting... if i find my copy ill let u know... if anyone else has a copy they could maybe post it here for u....
