Junior Guinea Pig
I noticed this morning that rather than peeing, Nelli seems to be leaking urine. She doesn’t seem to have one big wee, but rather over time wherever she is laid, there will be a puddle of pee. Her bottom is also completely soaked because of this.
We called the vet, who said to give her Metacam twice daily, and if it doesn’t improve, to set up an appointment with the exotics vet.
However, over the course of the day I have realised that she is still dripping urine, and we attempted to collect a sample (gave her plenty of fluids before hand) and in about an hour and a half she hasn’t produced anything other than tiny droplets which soaked straight into her fur. She is also VERY smelly - I’m talking fishy, sour smelling urine.
I have some at home urinalysis strips - I couldn’t really take one because she hasn’t peed adequately. However I pressed it against her very wet, pee soaked fur and it came back with elevated leukocytes, nitrites, proteins and ketones. No idea what this means, and if it is a at all useful.
The vets were very clear in saying to wait 24 hours, but will she be okay waiting that lon if she does have a UTI?
