Hi everyone i keep my guinea pigs indoors in a shop bought cage they are cleaned out every day, i only work three days a week but when i come in the house after doing a 6 hr shift they stink i use newspaper and lots of hay is there another bedding i could use which will hold the odour better thanks Emma. x

How big is there cage? How often do you clean them out?

Carefresh is probably the best, safest and more absorbant bedding O0

I use newspaper and hay but also they have there own snuggle bag I usually only clean them out every other day but if ive had to leave them longer I havent noticed a smell my friend has 2 males and they seem to smell after a day mine r female dont know if that has anything to do with it :)

I had the same problem with my piggies, i moved then into my room and they atarted to skink, However, i have now got then a bed, made from fleese and washable. i also put shredded paper own and the smell has stoped now.

fleece material is suppose to be easy, and washable, if you don't mind putting the fleece iny our washer, my mom said she wouldn't have it in her washer though ::) looks like I will have to hand washing is another option.

Sorry maybe I'm being stupid but why won't she wash it? I always put it in the washing machine and have never had a problem

hehe no its not you its my mom, she is very funny about things like this, she doesn't like the idea of putting animal wee in her washer as she feels that when she will wash her next load that the bits and stuff off the fleece will still be in the washer and attach itself to her clothes. My mom is funny like that. I move out in 2 months or so, so hopefully I can get my piggies and wash the fleece how I like :)

I have always found wood shavings the best for odour but my pigs just don't do well on it, but i am not sure but i think pets at home do a sented saw dust, not sure if is the best thing for guineas but could be an option in the piggy loo!
They do them in small packs so you give it a go

I use Vetbed on top of a wood-based clumping cat litter. every day i vaccum the poos off the top and remove the clumps from underneath, cage is in my bedroom and have no smell at all!

Absolutely no scented shavings, let alone shavings. Bad for both skin and respiratory system.

I use a combination of fleece and megazorb and the only thing I can smell is hay.

I use thick layer of newspaper topped with vetbed. Change the vetbed and newspaper every 3 days or so and it doesn't smell. I find if I don't clean out their pigloos every day (hay and fleece) then they can start to smell.

My two male piggies have fleece as bedding and there is no smell. I clean the poop out everyday and wash the fleece once a week. My husband also had a problem at first with me washing their fleece in the machine, but now he doesn't care cause it doesn't effect our clothes at all. So it's not just your mom ;) Wood shavings, especially pine and cedar, are very bad for small animals. Aspen can be used though, but the fleece really does work well with us :) Good luck!

We have just started using megazorb. very impressed so far, smells great. ours are outside at the mo tho so will be interesting to see if you're more aware of the smell once they in for winter...
