Questionabout leaving my guinea pig with a friend

At the end of the week my fiance and I are going away on vacation and I will be leaving Rupert at my good friends house to babysit. The question I have is that they have a pest chaser (an elecronic device that plugs in the wall and gives off a slight hum to detour rodents) and I was wondering if this device would harm Rupert? If anyone has any information please post so I can let my friend know that she has to unplug it before Rupert can stay there.

Well if it deters rodents it must be turned off as guinea pigs are ... well ... rodents ;)

thats what I thought too but the package it came in specified mice and rats so I just wanted to be sure. I would be heartbroken if I came home and something awful had happened to him and I am sure my friend would be torn up about it too. Thanks for your reply!

I would agree - it's just not worth the risk. I hope your friend will be agreeable to turning it off?

Yes I have let her know and she said that she would be unplugging them so Rupert will be ok. I am just glad that she asked me about it before it was to late. :)

I never thought of that, but I think that would be a funny gift. but they have 2 children under the age of 5 so I dont think they are a good idea in that house hold even if not being used. Good gag gift though

I always wondered about that. We have had mice problems in the past, crossed fingers that they finally are staying away, and I was going to pick one or two up BUT decided with two piggies, a dog and a bunny it would hurt their sensitive ears.
I'm sure if they're unplugged Rupert will be just fine.

Well we are back and Rupert had a great time with his aunty. She unplugged the pest chaser just for the time he was there and we had no problems. He got to play with her 2 children and they were great with him. Actually I think he got a little spoiled while he was there.
Thanks to all for the great advice.

And I hope you had a good time as well, and didn't spend it worrying about Rupert?

We did have a good time, I didnt worry about him but I did miss him and think of him the whole time we were gone along with our 2 cats we left at home. (they had lots of food to eat and water to drink)
