Going to the beach. This is the third year going away and leaving my piggies with a highly capable pet sitter. She runs the bunny and piggie room at our shelter, and her day job is at a local zoo caring for their giraffes! She comes twice a day to clean and feed my girls, gives meds and sends me a pic each time. I pay her $250 which I hope is enough!

But this year is different because of covid. I havent been out of the house and away from them regularly. Last year it was only 3 months of being at home when we went away.

Two of my pigs eat SO MUCH HAY! I'm seriously worried they will eat it all in the 12 hours they are alone and starve!

I know you guys understand. You'd think staying oceanfront for a week would be something to look forward to, but I can't wait to get back!

Hopefully after the first night and the morning text from our sitter will make me relax.

...... and breathe. Let your sitter know to put what she thinks will be enough hay in for 12 hours and then put the same again in if you're that worried. She knows what she's doing. You've left her in charge of your piggies before and as you say she is "highly capable". Enjoy your holiday at the beach - sounds lovely!

I missed mine when I was out of the country for a week...even though they were at home and my husband is more than capable of looking after them. I also missed them when we went away for a long weekend once. Even the kids missed them and were wondering when we would be picking them up. I'm sure the will be absolutely fine. As for the hay, can you stuff their housing full of it? Perhaps 4x as much as you usually put in?

Try and enjoy your break. They'll be happy to see you when you're back :)

Thank you! I am planning on putting the wooden manger we haven't been using back in, in addition to the big pile on the floor they get. We don't use hay bags anymore ever since the little on put her whole head in and got an eye injury.

And this is just one of my pairs...the other two aren't nearly as crazy for hay as these two are!

Relax, have a lovely holiday.
You already know and trust your pet sitter.
If you are concerned just ask her to put extra hay in each day.
Go and enjoy your break
