Morning,

Unfortunately we had an accident yesterday 😢 one of our boys, Bobbi, managed to jump from my daughters arms when transferring them to the run (we have done this many times and she is super careful, just a freak accident I think 😞 she’s devastated and feels so guilty, she’s only 9) and he landed with a thud then wouldn’t weight bare.

Having seen the vet it’s either fractured or badly bruised, (not to know without and x-ray) so he’s on a course of metacam and rest to see how he goes. Anyone ever experienced similar? He still seems super happy, eating, drinking going to the toilet fine, and is excited to see us and be petted (avoiding the leg of course).

To keep a close eye we took him inside last night away from his cage mates so he could rest fully and have his meds (he was surprisingly good with this!), but I worry about keeping him away from them for too long as I don’t want them picking on him or shunning him when it’s time to go back.

Do you think he would be ok to go back in with them today? We will continue to keep a close eye and keep up with his meds and plenty of food to keep him happy. Fingers crossed it heals soon! X

What is his cage set up like?
It sounds like he is outside?
What bedding is he on?

I think it is better to leave him with his cage mate if possible, but make sure his cage floor is smooth and there are no ramps or platforms that could cause him to put pressure on his leg. If he is on a deep bedding (shavings), maybe think about replacing it with fleece and a towel until his leg heals.

I hope your daughter is ok - I am sure as he is young he will heal quickly and be fine.

I hope he is ok.

:agr: With everything swissgreys has said. I would be better to be with his friend.

He’s back with his cage mates, they are on (dustless) wood shavings and have soft bedding in their little enclosed bed area, and hay. They have a ramp to go upstairs but are yet to use it (think they’re still too little), but just to be safe I’ve lifted that so they just have downstairs. We are keeping him inside overnight so we can monitor his toileting output (the vet said stress/pain can interfere with their gut and digestive system so better to keep an eye) but has been with his cage mates from around 8 each morning and is doing well ☺️ He seems quite happy hopping around using three legs, just praying it actually heals and he starts to use it again soon! If no improvement in another day or so we will be going back to see if there’s anything else that can be done for him x
