My almost 4-year-old piggie, Linney, was diagnosed with a UTI last Tuesday. She was obviously sick on the day she was diagnosed, however, she has been put on Baytril twice a day and is much more herself since then. She is back to eating and running around with her sister and behaving normally, however, I think it still hurts to urinate as she hunches her back occasionally when she pees. I was only given seven days of Baytril to start, but have a follow-up appointment booked for Monday where they will test her urine again and palpate her again to feel for stones. I've heard that UTIs can be difficult to get rid of... how long is she likely to be on antibiotics? I want to get enough to cover her for awhile, as these repeat vet visits weekly are going to take their toll financially in a hurry!

Just to add, I will likely also be x-raying her for stones/sludge in the bladder if she continues to have occult blood in her urine on Monday. The vet suggested it last week, but I decided to try the 7 days of antibiotics first to see if there was improvement. Luckily, I've just gotten a new job so now feel more comfortable paying for the x-ray to see what is brewing in her bladder. It is just one view, she will not be sedated at all. Is there anything I need to do to be ready for the x-ray? Anything I need to know going in? I'm assuming it will be no big deal since it's fully conscious, but I don't know for sure since I've never done a small animal x-ray before!

My girl recently had a UTI. I was only given one week of baytril and it has seemed to clear it, but generally it's usually 2 weeks. If you are still worried I would ask for another weeks worth just to be sure :)

See how she goes. Sometimes a week of Baytril will be fine. Other times you need to lengthen the course or even change to a different antibiotics such as Septrin which if good for UTI's. Dont rush into an xray if shes ok peeing and youve tried the above. They can usually do xrays consciously, no need for drugs in the normal way, but this does also depend on what xray view your vet will want to take.
