I was just reading through all the posts and was very sad to see him looking so poorly and now I have just read that he passed away - i am so so sorry for your loss :-((

I have just read this thread and I am very very sorry Lenny has died. You did everything you could for him, that is obvious. Poor Lenny, that was a really nasty infection and too much for him to fight. I'm glad he had you to help him in his last few days.

So sorry to hear that you lost your fight!

At least Lenny could leave the best way possible: on his own, being cuddled and loved. You did your very best for him, and he tried his very best for you. You will always have the comfort that you did not fail him in any way. It might not be much now, but it will be later on!

With a big hug for you
Vicky

really sorry to hear about your news.

Words are failing me but my thoughts are with you.

How very, very saddening. Lenny was a beautiful piggy and it really is devastating to see how fast they can go downhill. You did everything you could do to help your little fella. Thinking of you x

Tears are falling as I read this .... some piggies just touch our hearts. He was a lovely boy, and you couldn't have done more for him. This is the worst part of belonging to our animals, when they leave us - but at least he had the comfort of knowing you were there. I'm just so very sorry.

I'm really sorry to hear that Lenny has passed. I have been following this thread and was willing him to get better. Sleep well Lenny. x

Rest in peace Lenny and popcorn free of pain over the bridge with all those who have gone before you.
Huge hugs to everyone Lenny left behind I am sure he will never be forgotten x

I am so sorry to hear that! 8...8...8...

Hes in gp heaven now... He wont have to deal with the suffering and pain he must have felt. I'm sure he'll never forget you and all the things you did for him. *hugs*

What a gorgeous boy he was, have just caught up with this & i too am saddened to see he's gone to the bridge :(

Sleep in peace Lenny x

So sorry to read that Lenny has now passed over Rainbow Bridge!

You did everything you could for him and he knew that.

Run free Lenny amongst the lush forever green grass xx

Oh no, just catching up. What a shock. I'm so sorry for your loss. Take peace knowing Lenny is no longer suffering xx

I would just like to update everyone about this story....

In my quest to get information from someone very experienced about another problem I have with 2 of my other pigs (may be related to Lennys problem) I discovered that the dosage I had been given of Septrin was far too low to have any impact at all. Two of the phrases that were used by 2 different people were "might as well have given Lenny a lollipop to suck" and "may as well have opened the bottle and given Lenny a sniff"..... so in effect I may as well have given him nothing.

Problem is that Septrim is licensed for human use and vets are unsure of the safe dosage for pigs and therefore err on the side of caution and give smaller doses. My Lenny had been prescribed 0.2ml twice a day. He should have had at least 0.5ml twice a day.... thats two and a half times as much. If my Lenny had been given the correct dose (ie one that could have fought his infection properly) he may still have been with me today.:0

I confirmed this with 2 very experienced people and then mentioned it to a different vet at the surgery and would you believe it he agreed. So now my two who are ill (very possibly with the same infection) are getting .5ml twice a day for 3 weeks and they are responding well.

To say I am disappointed with the vet is a bit of an understatement and I just can't help but think.... "what if ?" "If only"

This must be so frustrating.... I would also think "If only..." but at least you know better for the future!
Big hug!

I have only just seen this and I am so sorry you lost Lenny. I had a pig with a similar illness, three of his legs swelled up like balloons and he was not eating etc. Vet prescribed 0.2ml baytril x twice a day and after 3 days, no difference. Three very experienced GP people advised me to increase dose to 0.4ml x 2 daily. He started to respond and the dose at that rate was incresed to 3 weeks duration. I gave metacam at one drop twice a day, probiotic and syringe fed/hand fed. Sunny was only 6 months old which probably helped.

I suppose the moral of the story is to seek a second opinion, but you did your utmost and Lenny was a credit to you.

Rest in peace handsome xx

It is hard to accept, and I am very sorry for you!

I had a piggy die, which with the info from this board I might not have lost... all you can do is cherish the memory of a lovely pig and make sure your other pigs are making it!
