I went to a fruit and veg stand today, asked the owner if he had any reduced fruit or veg that he was willing to sell me at a reduced price, he pulled a box out under the display. I asked how much and he said I could just have it and to take what I wanted! So I came home with 7 whole cucumbers and 5 whole lettuces! Shared them with my neighbour who has a guinea pig and a rabbit!

how cool is that?!

Ive done that with florists, they tend to throw out flowers that they cant sell due to being a little old, they are lovely even if they only last a couple of days and free!

thats great I do this all the time, greengrocers and market stall holders trim excess leaves off the veg and throw aside deformed looking or broken carrots as they are not as attractive to sell so I always go round asking, quite often I've even taking carrots out the bag and had them for my tea hehe :) I then just buy a few choice bits like peppers and broccoli to give them a nice mix of veggies

Wow! I learn something new everyday on here! I am definately going to try this. Veg shopping appears to be cheap when you look at the individual prices but then it all mounts up :)

it certainly does add up, its quite useful really, my local greengrocers tends to give a massive bag full and I still throw half of it away as I don't want to feed my pigs leaves that are turning or soft carrots but when I go to the market I can easily get a carrier bag full of cabbage leaves etc that will last me the week and to be honest they are good enough for me to cook with if I really wanted to but I don't think I could live with the guilt of raiding my piggies veg supply :))

Ah wow! That's excellent, i do have a fruit and veg stand near my work...

That's so neat.

See! People can simply just be nice because they want to xx>>>
Stuff like this makes me happy~

We buy ours from a saturday market in the town centre. Two big bagfuls a fortnight and in the summer months whatever herbs and veggies we have in the garden.

It's surprisingly cheap when you don't buy from supermarkets.

Also I go just as they're packing up and haggle a bit. None of them want to take stuff home again so I get it dirt cheap. The piggies don't care if the carrot is pear shaped so why should I?!
