Hi everyone! I have a lethal guinea pig who is roughly 8 months old now! He has a few dental issues as expected, he has 1 front tooth and molars at the back but no others. His incisor grows very quickly and I am having to take him to the vets every month or so to have this filed. My vet has recommended that I have this tooth removed. I’d just like to know if anyone has been in a similar situation, or has a guinea with no teeth. I don’t want him to have it removed then not be able to eat at all! Will he still be able to pick up his nuggets?
Thanks!

We have a number of piggies, here at TEAS, with missing incisors and we get the remaining tooth, or teeth, burred every three to four weeks. It is risky to remove an incisor, although with a good vet, the risk would be small, and guinea pigs do learn to eat without them. Maybe it would be worth getting your vet to bur the tooth down to the gum and see how your piggy copes first, before having it removed completely.

Hi, have just returned from vets. He has had his tooth burred as much as it can, it couldn’t be done to the gum due to the root in the tooth. The vet has again advised me to get it removed as my piggy is becoming a bit resistant to the procedure.
