There really is nothing else that has changed, still on the same bag of hay til the Oxbow arrives, central heating on a timer so the same every day, cleaned out every Sunday and Wednesday but not done it yet as I think sleep is maybe the best thing for them.

Am going to start a piggie diary I think that's a great idea Laura. What type of probiotics are the best and where would I get them?

Thanks for butting in, all butting very much appreciated so feel free everyone :))! I need all the help I can get!

Now the questions...Is it good? Does it taste rank? Or am I the only one who tastes everything before my precious bundles get it :red. Do you give them it every day or how do you do it?

Think I will go to the vet and get the rank tasting ones for now until I know what to do.

It says you sprinkle it on food... or I guess you could syringe it... Do you have syringes? My vet said it's fine to give probiotics as it helps there guts... I've never tasted it... I'll leave the taste test to you lmao! :))

Avipro Plus or Bio Lapis are good. Make up as directed on the packet (I think it's usually 1 scoop (Avipro)/packet (Bio) per 200ml water) but it's best to make up smaller amounts. I tend to give a quarter of the scoop/packet in 50ml water and syringe as much as piggie will take.

Although mine do enjoy probiotic in water bottles. It may be worth buying a small bottle to have alongside their normal, plain water, just for a bit of probiotic water for them to help themselves to.

Right I'm back, a little breathless and very cold...The rank one the vet gives me is called Companion Animals Professional, made by Protexin Veterinary. Did try to syringe them last week but they were none too happy about it, but vet had said it was ok to squirt it on their veg so just did that instead.

Will order some better stuff off internet I think, thanks for the suggestions and anything else gratefully received :)

As nothing seems to be having much effect on their behaviour are you still certain that they are "not quite right"?
Have you asked your flatmate what she thinks?

I am, and the flatmate is of the same opinion, it was her who dealt with them this morning as I had an early driving lesson. They bounced back very quickly last week and hopefully will do the same again this time, I'm just not sure what is interfering with their digestive system. The vet said last week there had been an upset, and they are behaving as though there has been another one. I don't think I'm being neurotic but they are my first guinea pigs and I want to do right by them.

"I don't think I'm being neurotic but they are my first guinea pigs and I want to do right by them."

A perfectly understandable point of view.
I appreciate it is easier said than done but try and take a detached view for a couple of days.

I know you're right but I just find it so strange there was no excitement for the morning veggies, they are always like a couple of nagging children screaming impatiently! I probably am panicking over nothing, you just read so much about pigs hiding their illnesses I am maybe being uneccessarily concerned. So to probiotic or not to probiotic? That is the question...

elle I've been thinking you said it was your flatmate that tended to the piggies this morning is it possible they did not get excited over veggies because it wasn't you bringing them? When I wasn't with mine I asked my mum if they were wheeking and they weren't but they are now I'm here, maybe it's because they are used to you and didn't realise your flatmate was feeding them?

Pigs do tend to quieten down as they get older and learn that they will still get fed, even if they don't squeak.
