Hiya everyone talks about their Guinea pigs and how awesome they are but I wanna talk about my one pig Gilbert he's 6 years old or around there and though he weighs next to nothing and his voice his gone from a long battle with a respiratory infection but even so he's still eating drinking and being his sweet old self and everyday I wake up thinking today I'll wake up and he'll be dead but then he makes it through another day and I'm just so happy to have him for one more day that I just can't believe how strong he is how much he wants to live.

I have one sow out of my trio that is 6 and she is the last of a pair and even though she is as fit as I can expect a 6 year old pig to be I expect to wake up and find her dead so I feel your sympathy and the only thing wrong with her is that her front claws turn outwards :)

More recent one I took about 4 months ago.

He is stunning. I love Golden oldie piggies. Unfortunately never had a piggy over six yet but a couple have reached five.

It is nice to see them mellow as they age and we have had lovely bonds with both our old ladies.

Enjoy every day as you are doing, piggies are very resilient and hopefully he will be around for many more years to come :)

Aww Gilbert is lovely! My late Bea lived for 18 months after we were told she was dying. She developed secondary illnesses but still kept going (best guess at her age would have been six as she was at least 2 when I got her). Its amazing how much resolve such a small creature can have :)

My avatar is my oldest piggy truffles - she was bought a week after my daughters 12th birthday when she was 6 weeks old - my daughter turned 18 on 27th Jan this year so she is 6 years and 3 months roughly - she now weighs just under 1000gms but is still bouncing along - and yes - every morning I come down and am so glad she is still alive - a0 as I love her and b) we are coming up for my daughters A level exam re-sits and exams, I am terrified Truffles will go to the bridge on the morning of an exam and my daughter will flunk her exams.

My heart piggy Fudge, she'll be 7 in 2 weeks time. I was getting prepared to lose her 7 months ago when she was diagnosed.. Yet i still dont feel like I'm prepared for when the time comes.

It will honestly break my heart!

Here she is tonight in my hoody pocket (not like you's all havent saw her already!)

Yay for a thread dedicated to older piggies :)

We've never had one live past six but we do love the old ones. Our boys are all over 4. H is 5 but is battling with tumours in his back end and we don't expect him to be with us for too much longer. The Sheep turn 5 this summer and if we have a spare cage at some point this year then it will be filled with another set of older piggies. Our last 3 new additions have all been over 3 and we have decided to continue this as rescues struggle most to home older piggies, those with problems and single boys so we have had any or all of those in the past and intend to do so again.

My OH is a geriatrics registrar in the hospital and we have a geriatric piggy unit at home too :) We'd love to have one get to seven or more!

Monty has had severe dental disease since the age of three! He needs two weekly dentals and two years ago he developed a retrobulbar abscess, and sadly lost an eye. He's now the grand old age of 7 years 4 months and enjoys life to the full, living with his three friends, Toby, Percy and Sir Stanley!

I don't have any of my oldies left sadly. My oldest was at least 8 in these pictures although he was an adult when we got him so his true age is a mystery. He was a real lap piggy and loved a cuddle. Although as he got older he struggled to keep his back end clean but hated being brushed (hence his rather botched haircut!) Other than that he was as fit as a fiddle right up to the end.

My little Fudge :)

My Suzie (left) and Tambourine (or Tamsy). Both died at 6 years and 4 months, though four years apart. Tamsy had a stroke in June 2010 and was PTS one month later. Suzie got very ill in June 2014 and could not be saved.
Best friends re-united on the Bridge.

Millie is my eldest, she will be 6 in about 3 months we think. Then Mabel isn't far behind. Our Terk was 7 when she died but she only lived with us for the last couple of years of her life.

Romano (black piggie) was born roughly in May or June in 2011 and he's my oldest piggie. Hoping to have him many more years to come. All my other piggies have died around 2 years old so he's done really well.
Matthew (ginger and white) 'may' have been my literal oldest piggie as we never knew his real age when I adopted him and was told anywhere from 2 -7 years of age.

What a lovely piggy.

Older piggies have great personalities. I'm really not sure how old our Blondie, Football and Ned are but we're guessing at upwards of four. We haven't had them long but they have wiggled into our hearts and it saddens me to think one day they will not be there. Football has multiple problems and Blondie has suspected heart problems, both have just had babies :-(
