hi I'm new to this forum so I'm not sure if I'm in the right place . hehe i just wanted to ask about my new guinea pigs .. i give them a variety of fresh vegetables everyday as well as an occasional fruit. they also have an unlimited and always available supply of hay and pellets.. my guinea pigs seem to be choosing what they like most from the dish of veggies and leaving the rest. infact all they are eating from the dish is the romaine lettuce and leaving out the carrots, tomatos, fruit, broccoli and many others.. I'm concerened they will get diarrhea eating all this lettuce. should i eliminate it from the dish altogether? maybe it would encourage them to eat the other choices.. but when i tried this i found an occasional bite on a carrot or just a taste of the fruit. they seemed to have dismissed the plate and spent the day eating pellets and hay only. whats going on ?

Piggies in general just love to eat leaves and anything that is green, so try giving less of the romaine lettuce and reduce the pellets as well. ;)
They are choosy animals and if they haven't tried it before it will take a while for them to accept the new offering.
Mine took a while to "swap" over from the pellets (that's what was offered to them only) to the fresh fruit and veg and even now they are still picky in what they want to eat. Each of them has their favourite and literally jumps through hoops to get it.

So good luck in playing Head Chef with the piggies. Hope your offerings are to their liking....LOL ;D

thanks alot. i was really worrying i was doing something wrong. hehe. ill try giving them more of choice in veggies and laying off the lettuce for a few days. maybe that will do the trick. thanks again ;D

i have found with my piggies they will eat whats there but if they lettuce they fill up on that. so i only give it once a week xx

Mine like watermelon, canteloupe, apple (no seeds), celery (cut into small bits because it's stringy), silverbeet, beetroot, carrot, cauliflower, broccoli, fennel, bok choy, corn (husks and silks, too), strawberries, blueberries, tomato, little bit of orange, spinach, cucumber, peach, nectarine, grapes (no seeds), sultanas, banana (skin as well), GRASS, romaine lettuce, endive, chicoree

So you see, you just have to find the right stuff for the piggies. Lay off the cabbage as it gives them gas.
