Is lettuce ok to give guinea pigs, I’ve heard that it can be to watery (obvs not iceberg)

Lots of kinds of lettuce are good except iceberg obviously. My 2 have curly lettuce and romaine lettuce. Piggies can have cos lettuce too but I don't feed it because for unknown reasons it can causes excess calcium to be excreted and I think mine might have that problem. Yours might be completely fine with it though. I don't feed lettuce too often because too much can cause soft poos. Hope this helps 🙂

Lettuce is absolutely fine to feed to them normally but the reason you were told not to was because your piggy’s were having runny poops. Giving watery lettuce to a piggy whose tummy is just recovering would possibly cause the runny poops to come straight back. Start with herbs as they are gentler on the tummy, give it a few days/week to ensure that everything in their guts really has settled back down and they you can try to reintroduce lettuce.

It would have been better to have kept this question to your other thread - Other members may not have known your piggies had been unwell and by saying that yes lettuce is fine, while it is correct, in your situation it’s not wise at this point to feed lettuce

:agr: You were given advice on your other thread which specifically related to your piggy having runny poop.

If you have a well piggy then a bit of romaine lettuce or similar is fine. However, we wouldn’t recommend giving any lettuce to a piggy with an upset stomach.
