I've heard that some sorts of lettuce are bad for Guinea Pigs, but is that absolutely true?
At first we always gave my piggy lettuce and it was practically her obsession. We'd say the word "lettuce" and she'd begin to beg like crazy for them! But after a couple of months, she got real bad diarrhea, so we stopped giving her lettuce. But I've noticed since we stopped giving her lettuce, she hasn't popcorned ever like she used to when we did give her her favorite food.
Is it OK if I give her only a tiny bit a day of lettuce to keep her happy? Or would that be enough for her to get a tummy ache again?

What type of lettuce did you feed? Iceberg is, in effect, "crunchy water", it has no nutritional value and is high in nitrates. That's the one to limit/avoid, the other types tend to be much more suitable. The most common ones are:

Romaine / Dolce Verde
Round / Boston
Endive / Frisee
Escarole
Radicchio
Rocket
Lambs Lettuce
Lollo Rosso / Red Leaf
Batavia

And so on.
As long as you balance the lettuce out with other, more nutritional foods, there's not normally any problem with feeding lettuce daily.
