So this week ive been really unhappy with the hay, its really clumpy and matted and horrible, I didnt like it, and clearly neither did Amber, she was eating it but not much, she had other hay as I buy good quality hay for the topping of the daily hay, which she ate. Anyway this hay got worse and worse the more I used and in the end I'm sure she was just eating the good hay and the good hay I filled her ball with (her ball has been emptied last couple of mornings). I opened the new bag of hay yesterday and that wasn't much better either... So tonight ive just stopped using the normal hay and just given her good hay.

I was watching her this evening whilst having dinner, and she was grooming (nothing out of the ordinary) then.. i saw her scratch her neck/head right behind her crest in-between her ears. She did it once and i thought okay she just had an itch then again... and for about a whole minuet (then layed down and got comfy). I finished my dinner and got her out, theres a line where shes obviously been scratching more than just the times ive seen, and the fur is... powdery? or it feels powdery but ive not used any spot on or anything. Also its.. broken.. and bit messy? I dont know how to explain it, but its rough? Ive taken some photos so you can see, there not very good but you get a good idea.

Sorry some of those photos are upside down!
She normally doesnt mind me stroking her but at that point she shakes her head and shakes me off or trys to get me off, chatters, rumbles etc.
The rest of her skin looks fine, and the rest of her furr is fine too, just that spot. Heres the rest of her furr:

Shes eating, drinking, pooping, weeing everything else is fine! I mean shes drinking more but ive recently changed pellets to vitakraft so I'm 100% sure thats why shes drinking more.
Anyway i just wanted to know whether this could me mites or lice or flea's or something, ive not seen anything moving (although i know you cant always) and the rest of her seems fine! Just that spot. I'm wondering if its because of the rubbish hay, like maybe shes had a reaction to it and just happens to be really bad at that spot? or something like that. Yesterday she got right under her hay too, only thing that was visible. was her bum, is it more likely to be the fact that the hay is rubbish rather than something like mites, lice etc? Shes always had dandruff too, but its never bothered her!

Are there any other symptoms on mites, lice and stuff?

She weights 1055g too.

Thanks! any advice would be good! :)

Has she lost any fur at all?
Can you see any little like black dots (hay mites/static lice)?
Dandruff?

Nope no fur loss at all.
Cant see anything at all. The fur is just really messy and broken.
Yeah she gets dandruff, but shes always had it, sometimes you can see the white flakes sometimes you cant. Its never causes her any problems in the past. and actually at the moment she hasn't got any visible dandruff.

Ah the pictures have loaded now!
Seems okay to me, especially with her not having the above things, I'd just monitor her, as you said if she gets dandruff she may have some dry skin :)

To be honest, I can't see a sign of anything, but of you are worried, please have your piggies checked out by a vet. A line is the result of some vigorous scratching, but that doesn't necessarily mean that anything is wrong. Keep an eye on her, but don't panic. It can just be dust or dry skin flakes.

Yeah shes clearly been going at herself a bit, the hair is all broken and messy.
Thank you, I will keep an eye on her over the next few days and cut the rubbish hay out :) As long as she hasn't got any visible signs of mites flea etc, that I'm missing

The links I have given you will help you to learn what skin parasites guinea pigs can have and how they typically manifest. It is always best to get confirmation from a good vet as not all issues are textbook, and especially mange mites and fungal can look very similar in the early stages and can also both appear in non-specific locations. Never treat on spec, as you can make things worse in case of better.

Of course, If it gets worse or bald I'll get her to a vet straight away! Thank you for the links! :)
