Hi everyone,
I when to buy 2 guinea pigs yesterday and walked away with 7 pregnant guinea pigs they where in the most upsetting condition 😥😥I have ever seen ( I could not leav them there ) he had sold all the male and could not get rid of the females (I wonder why!😡😡)
Any way I can see they all have lice and one is so bad that she was bleeding on the way home, I think she has been picked on by the other to as her ear is ripped in half, I have got some revolution cat flea treatment that I used on my other guinea pig and was wondering if I can use it on the pregnant ones to (not sure how pregnant they are some are really bigger then the other!😱😱)
Please if you have any helpful information please share as I am really worried about them all
Thank you
Brook

@Brook Because of their poor conditions I would definitely recommend taking them all to a vet for checkups. Who knows what problems they might have!

It was very noble of you to take them away from that awful shop!

Oh my goodness, those poor piggies!
Lucky you rescued them, what an amazing thing you did.
I would get them all to the vets very quickly.
If you are worried about the cost, you could ask a rescue center to take them if you have one close? If they really are all pregnant that’s going to be a LOT of piggies to handle!

Hi! Can you please tell us which country, state, province or UK county you are in so we can put you in contact with a good standard rescue with plenty of experience in looking after neglected pregnant sows, whether that is for active help or advice on care and what is safe to use. Brand names and products differ across the world; we have members and enquiries from across the globe.

Please have them all vet checked anyway!

Here are our pregnancy guides. Pregnancy & Baby Care Guide

Yah thank you I have emailed the vets already and will go tomorrow see what they say
The 6 other guinea pigs are in ok condition (no hair loss or wounds that I can see) but I can see some lice on them
I will try and post some more photos of the rest when I can
I have had pregnant sows before that had 3 healthy piggies 💕💕💕thank god so I know a bit on what I am doing (housing, feeding, sexing etc)
I am in Western Australia and working with my local vets
Thank you ever one for replying

The immune system of highly pregnant mothers is under extra stress and therefore much less effective at fending off opportunistic bugs, whether that is a fungal infection or skin parasites. You need to always treat all guinea pigs in contact.
Ivermectin is generally used for all guinea pig skin parasites. If you vet is recommending to additionally use a medicated shampoo (you may need to check whether it is safe for guinea pigs AND pregnant sows), then please keep in mind that you need to wait 48 hours between every application to the skin to allow it to be absorbed and go to work before you apply something else.

There are no rescues in your part of Australia, but you could contact:
- Lyn from Melbourne https://www.facebook.com/Chuffnut-C...-Sanctuary-Melbourne-Shelter-132958846775921/
- Lynda from Sydney Cavy Central Guinea Pig Rescue ( ACS Sydney)
- Alex from the Gold Coast Gold Coast Guinea Pig Rescue Inc
They are the three guinea pig rescue ladies in your country that have the longest and most extensive experience with neglected and infested pregnant sows in bad state and that are all willing to help you with tips and treatment recommendations.

Could you please add your state to your details so we can tailor any advice to what is relevant and available where you are straight away since we have members from all over the world. Click on your username on the top bar, then go to account details and down to location. This makes it appear with every post you make and saves us all time. ;)
