I've gotten a new long haired guinea pig, she's about 6-7 weeks, and I found lice after having her for a week. I separated her immediately and checked my others; I didn't find any. I was wondering if there was any effective treatments I could buy at the store. Also, if i could have a description on how to effectively treat my guinea pigs.

Hi there,
Can you add your location please as it does help when giving advice as we have members from all over the world.
I'm not sure what country you are from, maybe the states?

Eitherway, ivermectin is a treatment for lice
Guinea Lynx :: Lice
but you will need to see a vet for a good dosing, they normally do an injection and that's after weighing your piggy to get the correct dosage. I buy Xeno450 online to routinely treatment my herds to manage any issues.

Hi,
Thanks for the advise. I bought durvet ivermectin pour, I heard it was okay to use.

The two long haired guinea pigs I have are the ones that I could see are infested. But I don’t know how to treat them correctly. Do I use the ivermectin then wash them or leave it?

Also, my American pige Don’t seem to be infested but I’m not sure if I should also treat them. Their cages Have always been separated but the cages are next to each other and they’ve been near each other time to time.

Thank you again.

(Just I didn’t explain the cages correctly)

To be honest I hadn't heard of that, but looking at the details it's strength appears to be quite high i.e. its for cattle.
The brand Xeno450 is what I use I think you can also get this in the states?
It's best to let it get absorbed into the skin and depending on what you are then washing your piggies with I would errrr on the side of caution. Even with natural remedies its been advised to leave a week between chemical treatment and natural as it could well overload the guinea pig. If it's lice it may well not spread, however I know that I would want to treat everything ensuring all cosy houses are washed in a hot wash.

Your set up looks lovely by the way.

I don't know if anyone else has any thoughts on the type of treatment on offer here.?
