i recently bought a guinea pig for my daughter from pets at home. today ive found tiny yellowbug like lice on her. is this lice? or is it something else? and if so where can i purchase a good lice shampoo?

yep sounds like lice

I wouldn't use anything from a pet shop as they contain pyrethins (can't spell) which can cause fitting and death in some guineas.

I think I said in my other post, go to www.gorgeousguineas.com, and check out their lice and easy, a shampoo with no nasty side affects O0

I don't know your location. Gorgeous guineas is great stuff if you are in the UK. In the US we don't have all these great guinea pig lines. You can buy some tea tree oil and mix 1/2 tea tree oil and 1/2 shampoo lather your pig up let sit 10 minutes and rinse. Be sure to treat all pigs. Then use a lice pick to remove anything left. Clean the cage completely. Wash everything. Toss anything that can't be washed. Repeat shampoo once a week for 2 - 3 more treatments. They also make Xeno or Zeno which can be purchased from a vet and is made specifically for small animals. It is basically like Frontline, comes in a series, and is applied to the pig and left. It is made mainly for mites, but works for lice too.

Ivermectin is only affective against mites.I do not recommend tea tree shampoos, they are too strong.Neem shampoo is safer and very affective.

If you can see them then it will be lice as mites cannot be seen. As Mary says Ivermectin is only effective on mites. If you are in the UK I would definitely recommend www.gorgeourguineas.com as they have some great neem based shampoos and lotions which are very effective. You can email Chrissie (who runs the site) and she will advise on the best product.
But I am sure you can also buy neem shampoos from health stores...?

Good luck O0
