Hi! We found lice on our piggy. She itches constantly so I decided to inspect and sure enough, there were little “bug” things on her moving. Is there a special treatment for her?
Special care?

Please take her to the vet and they’ll treat her - and possibly give you another dose in case you need to apply it again. Don’t home treat as that may not get rid of them.

What should I do for her cage? She has another piggy living with her and I’ve noticed she’s started to scratch as well.

I would call the vet and ask. It really doesn't hurt to just ask.
My exotic vet answers a lot of questions over the phone. If it is something serious, then I will be recommended to bring my pets in.

I called the vet earlier. I just wanted other piggy moms answers, as they’ve probably had it happen to them as well.

If your vet suggested asking us then I would find another vet as this one clearly doesn't know the first thing about piggies. Both piggies will need treating and the cage cleaned thoroughly with something like F10 solution

My vet didn’t suggest this at all. She has an appointment to get it taken care of. I was just looking for advice from other piggie moms. I’ve seen people say their cage needs cleaned every day and I’ve seen people say it only needs deep cleaned when they get it treated, with obvious everyday spot cleaning and cleaning their cage still. Was just looking for some advice 🙂

Sorry I misread your previous post. Obviously too early in the morning for my brain to be awake :))

Hi!

My longhaired boy Bellamy had lice that I could see in his back end, so I booked a vet visit for both boys (seeing as Steve probably had them too but due to his shorter hair I couldn't see them). The vet prescribed some treatment that I applied every two weeks for six weeks in total and they cleared up. I was also told to thoroughly clean the cage out every day as lice get everywhere! A lovely thought when my boys occupy my bedroom lol. Luckily lice are host specific so don't worry about you or other pets getting lice.

I would take them both to have them checked out. If they both have lice then they can both be treated quickly. My boys had one treatment at the vet and it cleared up quickly (can’t remember how long exactly). When I found it on the girls, I applied the leftover meds I’d been given by the vet and they were cleared within 1.5 weeks if I remember correctly.
