I need some life motivation :(

My BF has been offered a job about an hour and a half away from where we live now and they've offered re-location allowance. I'm fine with moving but I need to get a job ASAP before we move.

I had the perfect opportunity to be a nurse in a vets near the area .. prepared for my interview for days.. and it didn't go 100% how I wanted. They asked some tricky questions of 'give an example of..' which I tried my best at. Long story short I didn't get the job.

I really want a job working in animal care as I'm fed up of putting my dreams on hold but I can't find anything else and I'm panicking because we need to move ASAP.

I feel like I've really messed up :( And need some motivation to keep looking. Or maybe I should just settle and work somewhere else until we're settled.

I hope you find the right job soon. You can only try your best, which is what you did. You cannot do any more than that. Do not beat yourself up about it because you didn't get the job. :)

Sorry you didn't get the job but I agree, don't beat yourself up about it. You can probably actually learn a lot from a tricky interview.

I would ring them and ask if they would be prepared to give you any interview feedback to help you learn what to improve for future interviews. You could also ask if they would be prepared to have you come for some voluntary work to get a bit more experience or instead try other vets in the area and offer the same thing. If you're working in a practice and a job comes up, you might increase your chances if getting it even if you are only going in, say one or two Saturdays a month.

In the meantime, I would try and get a job in the area you are moving to that pays what you need, is the hours you want and which you are happy to do but don't worry if it isn't your dream job. People move around jobs and change careers all the time. It's never too late and you're just doing what you need to do

Good luck.

Good luck with your relocation and the job hunt. I do think that with animal related jobs you have to do voluntary work or have current work in a related field to have the experience to draw on in the interviews.

Sorry to hear that. Good luck in your job hunt and move.

Hi guys..
I didn't update you after this, but I asked the vets for feedback following my interview - she said she couldn't fault my interview, however they took on someone else as they had referral veterinary experience.

Yesterday I received an email from the practice.. they said they're looking to expand their team further and were wondering if I was still interested in the position. Ofcourse I said yes. They've however asked if I'm free for a 'meet and greet' on Tuesday. I think they just want me to come in so they can see me work in the practice with the animals and meet the director.

I'm really nervous and not sure what to expect .. they've told me to wear something comfortable that I don't mind getting hairy..! I still want to look smart but obviously practical. I've got a vet nursing book I'm going to skim over to give me some good questions to ask and brush up on my restraining skills.

Is anyone able to offer any further advice? This really is the perfect opportunity for me.

Just be yourself and I am sure you will do well. Good luck. :tu:

:agr:

You've already shown them you're motivated and you have done well in your interview.

Just follow their advice on what to wear - something like a decent fleece top would be practical. I would say don't wear jeans as jeans can look too casual.

I think you're more likely to fluff this is you try too hard.

Good Luck for Tuesday.

That's great news! I agree with you that it sounds like this is just the see how you go in practice bit.

Sounds like you're doing the right things already - skimming through the book is a really good idea.

It's probably blindingly obvious but definitely wear trousers rather than skirt and the fleece top idea sounds a good one.

While you are in there, turn your mobile off unless there is an absolute need to have it on.

And definitely be yourself. Don't pretend to know something if you don't because if they offer you the job you'll have to pretend it forever and that will not make you happy! I think better to have someone who is keen to lean and demonstrates they can pick things up quickly.

Hope it goes well for you.

Fantastic news! Sounds like you will be absolutely fine and loads of good advice here. As piggy smitten said, just be yourself. Good luck!

Good luck! I'm sure you don't need to be worried, they must have very positive feelings and a lot of confidence in you to have asked you back in the first place without having advertised the position first!

Wow! What a fantastic opportunity! Not many people get a chance like this. The very best of luck to you with the job and the house move.

Best of luck! What a wonderful turnaround!

It is always best to just be yourself, to ask questions when you don't know something (being willing to learn and take advice on board is a much better attitude than pretending to know it all and then being caught out) and just go with the flow.

WOW! What a turn up! You must be delighted. Good luck, hope all goes well. As the others have said: be yourself and you can't go far wrong! Let us know how yhou get on.

I've just got back from a long day..
I was there 9-1 in the end as I was helping in a long examination.
I think I did well, I have come down with a horrendous cold in the last couple days though so worried I may not have been 'cheery' enough - but I was friendly etc.
I just hope I did ok - I was kind of gutted to find out they're having someone else in on Friday though, which makes me dread that I wont get it. I've had a scenario like this before where I was called back but didn't get it the second time.
Fingers crossed :( I'm going to send them a thank you email this evening.

I hope so , I want to do everything I can to make a good impression. However I was writing this and mentioned the name of a clinician I spent some time with today and I realised the clinician was the director of the surgery! I went on the website to double check the spelling of his name. Now I'm trying to run over in my mind that I was the best I could be.

Everything crossed for you. If it's meant to be then you'll hear good news soon.
