Hi my guineapig is about a year and a half. Today when I went to give her a bath I noticed brown-ish spots mostly on her bum area. As much as I tried to scrub them off and pick them off they wouldn’t come off. What should I do? Are these hay mites? What can I get to help her? Once I dried her I couldn’t really see the brown dots because they were by the roots of the hair. Could I use stuff to treat fleas on her so see if that would work? I don’t really have enough money to take her to the vet? What should I do and can anyone help?image.webp

Is there anyway you can take another photo. I can only really see one very small spot and that's it. She may have had a reaction to something or sat on her food. If it seems like her skin is irritated then it could be mites but you can never really see them on the fur/skin.

I will try but it is very hard to get any picture of her

She needs to see a vet for the correct diagnosis and treatment. We are not allowed to diagnose from picture and we are not vets. We can only suggest ideas based on our knowledge and experience. We are just ordinary members like you. Please don't guess what the problem is and buy broad spectrum shop treatments as they don't work they just mask any problems and make it more difficult for a vet to diagnose the real problem.

Is there any way you could borrow the money to take your piggy to the vet? Or some vets do payment plans.

I can only agree with the above. If it is mites then a flea treatment is not going to work because guinea pigs don't get fleas. You need an appropriate strength treatment which sadly many over the counter treatments arent

If you can't get her to sit still for a good picture then maybe try and take a video? Also I agree with what others have said. We can't definitively say what's wrong just by looking at a photo. I get that money can be short at times, but what if she was seriously ill and really needed a vet right away? You should start a vet fund for potential future situations like this. There should always be a plan in place in case of emergencies.
