It's really dark here some days and I put the lights on low for our boys in their room and just wondered if this is ok? Does anyone else put their guineas a light on? Is there a need to do this? Would they be happier without it on? 🤗

You can do it but there is no specific need.

Mine live in my shed - the only light they get is natural so once the sun goes down that’s it!

Our boys are in our main living space with us, so I turn the light on in the morning for a brief period & again in the evening from when we are home until we go to bed. Once the lights on I don’t turn it off if I leave the room, only when I leave the house.
No pig has complained yet! They don’t seem to bothered, either way.

No lights for my two. I leave the curtains open so it’s naturally dark and light.

I feel bad when I go in to do meds and switch the light on. Must be a shock.

When I had guinea pigs, they had their own bedroom. I kept the blinds open during the day so they got natural light but when I closed the blinds at night, they were in the dark.

It’s completely up to you though but leaving them a light on isn’t a necessity x

Mine are in the living room, so the light is on when it is darker (unless none of us are home) and then it goes off when it's bed time.

In the summer the light is almost never on, but now the sun is setting at like 5pm and it'll only get dark earlier and earlier, so I don't want them to be in the dark for most of the day.

The boys live in the living room and we have bright white lights and white walls, like a hospital. 😂 I don't think they were/are bothered as they have plenty of hiding spaces/boxes to hide into if they want to disappear. We turn off the bright lights at around 11 pm but there is a floor lamp that I turn on while I'm still in the living room watching tv. Then lights would turn on again when hubby wakes up in the morning.

What we found out with my piggies, past and present, is when we are out during the day and the lights are off and it's very quiet, they sleep and not move much the whole time we are out. We know this as the food bowls weren't touched, the hay areas weren't a mess and the only hings touched were the hay in the side they sleep. We used to leave with Alexa playing the radio so they don't think they are completely alone. 😂

Now when we got Bear, the gates of their main cage are open at the moment because there are c&c barriers around the area where they are only allowed. I noticed that when we left the lights on when we were out, they did go out and was on the other side of the room eating hay when we returned. But when we left with the lights off, they stayed in the boxes in their main cage the whole time and not touched the food bowls.
