Probably another ridiculous question but... our two new girls (Janet and Jessie) are settling into their new home in our kitchen. Obviously I will turn the kitchen light off when I go to bed but should I be leaving it on during the evening or on dark days? It gets dark here at about 6pm so I don't know if I should just let them go with what natural daylight we have or if they need the light on just like humans.
Thanks in advance, Gillian, Chris, Janet and Jessie. :red

Good question, but I reckon the little blighters can see well in the dark.... I was poorly the other night and was downstairs with the lights off Sarsaparilla was doing laps without bumping into things so the collision detection seems to work :)) She was helping keep me up!

My boys are in the living room so they have the lights on all evening as someone is always in there. Lights out when we go to bed, they have adapted to our routine. I think chose whatever you feel is best and they adapt to suit you

Mine live in a shed, when it gets dark, I shut the door turn the light and heater on. I knock the light off at about 9pm. ;)

I feed my boys are 11.30-midnight and I leave the light on an hour for them. I then turn it off and its only 'on' again when the natural sunlight shines through. The piggies seem fine with it. :)

Thanks, I've just remembered (!) that I work 2 evenings a week (I'm on holiday this week), so they're going to have be without lights on those days any way. Other nights, I'll leave lights on until my bedtime, usually 9 or 10ish so hopefully they will get used to my routine.

I've been leaving a lamp on all day in my living room where Oscar is because it seems so dark and gloomy at this time of year. And the light goes off when the last of us goes to bed - but when I go up (usually first) I put a fleece over the top and back of his cage - not covering it completely.
