Hi all,

Just thought I’d post this and ask for your experience with chirping.

I’ve caught my little Lily chirping 3 times (!) in the last 7/8 days. Twice at night when the lights were out and all was quiet, the first time I nearly had a heart attack and broke my neck as I stumbled downstairs to their cage, sleepy and disoriented, to see what’s wrong. The third time happened just now, afterwards she snuggled up in her snuggle cup and started cooing, which seems to be her “comfy” sound.

I’ve noticed that along with the chirping she’s been extra talkative - in the mornings, when I get home from work, the cooing, she also talks/rumbles in her sleep and so on.

What’s your experience like with chirpers? I’ve heard so many theories on why they do it, my favourite one being that they’re communicating with the mother ship :D

That face
No advice with the chirping sorry! I’ve only ever heard it once from Jess or Rupert, no idea as it was the middle of the night and they had similar voices! Bless her the little gorgeous chirper :luv:

You are very lucky to have experienced it - most of us never will!

There are only theories on why they do it as nobody actually knows why because it is rather unusual to hear it ans the accounts of those who have aren’t in the same set of circumstances

Goodness what a stunner!
Peanut did it twice when he was younger, a short time appart. The first time he was out for floor time while I cleaned the cage. I think the second time he was in the cage and everything was normal. None of my other piggies have ever done it (not when I'm around!).

What a pretty girl. I love the mother ship theory. I've only heard my sow Shadow do it quite a while ago, and it seemed to be some kind of an alert call, like maybe animals do just before an earthquake or something. She was being quite intense.

My Eevee does it constantly. It’s as common as wheeking in my house And she’s taught Yugi to do it, so now it will be either of them.

I still have no idea what it means. She’s an older piggie not phased by a single thing in the world so I know it’s not fear. She’ll start up even with me in the room, when the house is pitch black and everyone is In bed or just even waiting for her veg.

my niece and newphew heard it yesterday and were startled. I glanced over and yep, Eevee chilled out with a leg stuck out comfortably was happily chirping away. :))

We've occasionally had chirping... many of our pigs have done it, but none of them did it very often. I know I have a video of Sundae chirping in my computer somewhere, but otherwise we never managed to get it recorded, they tended to stop when I came over! My daughter heard baby Tomie chirping a few weeks ago... I haven't caught her at it yet. It seems to be early in the mornings. Tomie might well be communicating with the mothership, she is loud enough to be heard from space! LOL!

Haha, mother ship! I just snorted out loud in a public place. :D

I caught one of my girlies chirping once, but it stopped as.I approached. I did manage to get this recording though! I have no idea which one it was or why she was doing it.

Amazing to catch it, you'd just think that was a budgie!
