I have a little one on antibiotics atm and her appetite decreased somewhat although she has perked up considerably over the last 24 hours :))
She has been eating her hay as normal and pellets but veggies are not so interesting to her :{ I've been giving her a varied choice in very small amounts twice daily and she has a little nibble then walks off :( I'm buying her stuff that is rich in Vit. C. fresh daily :))
Thankfully, she loves her hay - is having Oxbow and Timothy Alfalfa in small handfuls along with her regular meadow supply, Wagg Optimum pellets and Burgess Excel nuggets so am satisfied she is eating enough, just a bit concerned she's not eating too many veggies. We have Vit. C soluble tablets but don't really want to give her that in her bottle as I believe the pellets and hay contain the nutrients essential ?/
She is certainly very energetic today xx>>> running around whereas yesterday she seemed lethargic, sleeping on her heatpad and just 'nibbling' at food :( :...
Will be whooping when she starts to grab and run with the veggies again - can anyone advise if I'm doing the right thing for the little sweetie please ?
She's a small girl, 4 months old and weighs 550g, is having probiotics to help her gut as she's on the horrible Baytril (mixed with a drop of Ribena)

Putt used to eat less veggies when on Baytril but she would still eat her favourites. If you can get a little veg in her peferably something high in Vit C then that'll cover the vit c intake maybe Parsley. It's good news she's nomming hay still.

Hope she gets well soon x

She sounds as if she's a little better which is good. I'd offer her favourite veggies to encourage her to eat a bit more. Eating her hay is great! I'm sure she'll soon be running off with the best veg...:)

She loves the dark green bits of romaine lettuce and broccoli but keep trying her with other stuff daily (unless she's snacking when I'm not looking :))
Still not that interested atm :(
Here she is having some lap time after her antibiotics:

Aw poor little thing :(

How about syringing her a little probiotic in water? Or finding some fresh poops from one of the others & making poop soup? I did that with Daisy then she decided she'd chase Chubbs around for fresh ones herself lol! I don't think fresh veg is too much of a problem, as long as she is eating hay & pellets & poop soup she will get her vit C ok, most pellets have extra vit C anyway.

Is she on Baytril? Daisy had Septrin & Zithromax & neither affected her appetite rolleyes

Awww, poor little thing, she is a stunner x)

Tried Watermelon? It was always a sure bet with ours. How many days left of the AB's? How is her weight? If she's losing it may be time to supplement with Criticla care until she's off the antibiotics. Is her breathing getting better now?

'Fraid so, knew I may have a battle with the Baytril as it knocked my boar for six last year 8... She's having a probiotic and she's eating her poo's - thought about the poop soup as an option but don't think it's necessary atm :)
Considering taking her to the vet to have her teeth checked as they gave her a thorough organ check, lungs, heart etc. but only a quick look in her mouth so am wondering if she may have residual food/hay there. She doesn't care for cucumber as I know this can help remove any gunk.
Hoping it's the ab's that's knocked her off her veg as really don't want to stress her with another trip to the vet just yet - possibly hang fire until Wed. to see how she gets on.
Don't know if I'm worrying over something that is not there :{ as she is now sitting in the hay basket munching her way through x)

She has had a nibble of Honeydew - will get a watermelon as OH has gone piggy shopping, I'll call him now before he gets to checkouts :))
She is only day 5 of ab's, 0.5ml and plan to weigh her this afternoon - still maintaining 550g + absolutely zero sign of any snuffling, crackling etc. Think my ears are trained for untoward noises they make :x :(|)
Would you reduce the dose to half or am I playing with God :red

0.5ml is near the top end I think especailly for a small piggie like her. It may be worth a quick chat to the vet before lowering the dose... Putt was on 0.4ml twice a day (she was 1.2kg at the time ) for persistant URI

Is it 0.5ml twice or once a day. How many days has she left? Baytril doesn't half seem to play havoc with guts and apetitie. Good news she is eating her hay though. Her weight stayign at 550g is good news though, she's obviously getting the calories in her.

It's once a day - if I recall, Harley who was 900g when he had his stone was on the same (now a strapping 1600g fluff monster :(|)) The vet calculated the dose for her weight but tbh, I thought it was high for her size etc. Maybe I should have been a bit more assertive and questioned it but you always think vets know what's best mallethead
She has 9 days left of Baytril :(

Crikey that's a long time on Baytril :( What's wrong with her? (sorry if you had another thread)

What's her poop output like? (The things we ask on here lol) If she is pooping well, eating hay, readigrass & pellets no problem I think she should be okay for a few days, I would be inclined to offer her poops from one of the other piggies, even if it means picking up the odd fresh one & waving it under her nose in case she fancies it rolleyes

hi there...

I have also found this to be the case with my little one who is currently on antibiotics. She will eat her absolute favorite fresh food which unfortunately is not the rich vit c foods...they are the leaves off celery stalks and cucumber treats...but she still eats her hay and pellets. She also drinks ALOT of water which I have added a vit c liquid to it. I think this is normal...our little one has just had very aggressive surgery to remove a tumor/abscess (results have not come through yet) but she is responding so beautifully! I had her separated from her family for the first couple of days to allow her stiches to somewhat heal...thats when I noticed she wouldnt eat her veges...now that she is in with her sisters again, I have noticed she is eating more of the salads I guess because the others are and it is encouraging for her?. I would suggest feeding her her favorite treats around your other piggis and see if that helps...
why is your little baby on antibiotics?

If she is eating hay and pellets well, then it sounds like her teeth may be okay - I found that pellets were the first things Pig stopped eating when he needed dental work.

As long as she is eating hay and pellets a few days without vegetables will not hurt her - I know some people who rarely feed vegetables at all and they have happy, healthy pigs.

If you are not already doing so, I'd supplement with some probiotics (I prefer to mix this with water and syringe feed). Keep offering her a range of fresh vegetables, but try not to worry too much at this stage if she isn't interested.

It does sound like a long course of Baytril, but again this isn't unheard of - Pig was on Baytril for a month recently. I can't comment on the dose though, as it depends on the concentration of the solution?

Good luck and I hope she starts to feel better soon.

Little one is doing very well, has put 48g on over the weekend :(|) Reckon she'll be a little porker soon as she has suddenly developed a taste for the veggies and enjoying being very spoiled rolleyes
Wrapped us around her paws like all the others :{

Not sure how i missed this thread (obviously my stalking skills are failing me lol)

She's absolutely gorgeous (as are all your other pigs) - I'm spoilt for choice now which ones i want to pignap :p I'm glad she's feeling a bit better and now gaining weight - it's always a worry when they are poorly :(

Keep us updated of her progress :)

She has suddenly 'made herself very at home' today - just sits waiting for veggies now so is learning that when the others start shouting, it's food :x Eating really well although thinks I'm only here to hand feed her the veggies and she doesn't have to shout for hers... spoiled or what :x Lovely watching her popcorning tonight so think she has finally 'settled' in x)
Will pop some pics on very soon along with Sally and Tilly xx>>> :(|)

Thanks my lovely xx>>> Yes, I was so worried for her but I'm overjoyed at her progress over the last 24 hours - she caused me to break down in tears at work a few times :red but they understand luckily and made me lots of coffees :))
Little minx x)
