I'm concerned that my pig might be poisoned as I didn't realise the gardener has weed and deeded my lawn 2 weeks ago and I've just read that you shouldn't give them mower cuttings of which I did. He is now just laying in a corner with eyes looking weepy and half closed. I've picked him up and he seemed limp so I then put him back in the hutch and he slumped down again. Any advice that can help? It might be just age as we believe he might be around 4/5 years old. Thanks.

Please get your pig to your vets as soon as possible!

Guinea pigs can deteriorate quickly, and to be showing such weak signs is very bad, as prey animals they usually only show severe symptoms when it's quite late into any illness!

Piggies can live up 8 years or more so please don't just assume its age. If your piggie isn't eating at all then he is in for a slow and very uncomfortable passing. Please do go to an emergency vet and get him checked over

I agree with Twiams, he needs to see a vet as an emergency, the grass cuttings alone are enough to make him ill but with the weed killer aswell this could be a life or death situation. Please phone the emergency vet.

I notice you are in Letchworth like me, Letchworth vets have an out of hours number on their answerphone and you will either need to go to Letchworth surgery or Gatehouse in Baldock but the vet who answers will tell you. If you need any help let me know, am on the Grange estate.

Just thought i'd add if any weed killer has been used, it can be of great help to take the packaging so the vet can pin point the poisoning and help with finding the most suited treatment.

After about 1 & a half hours he perked up and appears to be ok. He is eating and drinking so maybe it was nothing too serious. Thanks for the advice.

Thank you for the update. Glad he has improved.

I agree it would be a good idea to get a vet appointment. They are open late on Thursday. I have been there myself tonight. I would recommend seeing Jeremy or Donald.

I would not say 4 or 5 years is particularly old.....mine have lived closer to 8 years. Please take him to the vet. Hope he is ok
