Hi all

today I noticed my girl limping on her left leg, straight away got her to an Emergancy vet (pets at home)
They also noticed a lump under her right arm... they said she wasn’t limping for them and they can’t find any swelling etc. I know it’s a pray thing to hide their illness.
anyway they took a sample of the cells in the lump and sent me on my way. Should hear back next week but they said it was hard and defo not a cyst as they tried to pop it :/
She also said surgery could be an option.. any one know how much that would be :/ obviously I’ll do anything for her but I can’t afford thousands of pounds right now I’m moving to my new house in 2 weeks this couldn’t have happened at a worse time for me money wise.
she’s told me to give her 2.4ml of metacam once a day, other vets have advised about 1ml twice a day? can anyone help me please? :(

Hi!

How piggy savvy is your vet and have they considered a problem with the lymph nodes (potentially lymphoma)?

What is your piggy weighing? Can you please tell me whether that is cat or dog metacam strength and whether the dosage is 2.4 ml or 0.24 ml?

Hi
I would very much doubt it as it was an Emergancy I just went there. I’d usually go to Cambridge but I wanted to go locally to get her seen quicker.
I think last time I went she weighed about 1.2kg
Obvs I didn’t go into the consultation room so didn’t know what was going on.
It’s now called cat and guinea pig medication and it was 0.24ml sorry

That is a VERY low dosage of metacam. The other one would the highest possible cat metacam dosage you can safely give if you give half every 12 hours in an emergency/really bad pain. That is the reason why exotics vets prefer to prescribe three times stronger dog metacam, especially for higher dosages although only the cat metacam is licensed for guinea pigs despite their much faster metabolism.

What I would recommend is to monitor her weight daily at the same time. As long as she isn't losing any, the pain is not so bad that it is impacting on the appetite.

I would also recommend to have a feel for the lumps yourself so you can check on whether they are growing, and if they do, how fast.
