We bought a ferplast wooden cage in preparation for our first pair of girl piggies and are very excited. We have given ourselves a few weeks to get everything sorted out but still have a few questions.

1) We plan to have the cage open topped all the time and also keep the little door open for several hours in an afternoon and evening when we are here and awake so they can roam and have floor time with us. Can anyone recommend an airy foldable pen that can form a good sized space please? We have an open fire so they can’t run free!

2) I have fleeces, I intend to use puppy pads underneath. Do I have to double layer the fleece or will one layer on top of puppy pads do?
Does anyone know where to get larger puppy pads (120 x 60) or do you just use two per go?

3) The cage came with the hidey/platform/bowl thingy. I thought to take that out and pop in a litter tray plus a separate snuggle hide as well as the wooden stick hidey thing or are they brilliant?

Thanks all 🐹

Welcome to the forum
Have you had a look at the housing threads on the forum?
Some of your questions may be answered there,
Mine are in a c&c cage with freedom to roam when supervised.
Looking forward to the arrival of the piggies

I had until recently a plastic Ferplast 120 cage for our piggies. We started out with 2 baby boars and they found the step thingies on the side of the platform useful to help them jump up to the platform for nuggets or treats (or to get away from the other!). When they were older they could stretch or jump up and didn't need the steps. But we kept that part as it gave them an enclosed area that they could hide in if they wanted, which we filled with hay, and it kept the hay from being spread everywhere. Later on we stopped using the side piece but kept the shelf, so the nugget bowl was up there out of the way of zoomies. You can try it both ways and see if your piggies have a preference
