Hi everyone

I currently have this indoor cage for my two boys:
Ferplast Small Pet Cage Casita 100: Great Deals at zooplus

I know this is too small for them. They aren't actually living in it full time - we were just using it whilst away over night here and then and generally they live in a two tier hutch. They love the space this gives them.

After doing some research on keeping a cage inside full time tidy, I have decided to use fleece and vet bed. I feel sad that pet shops say this cage is big enough for two piggies when i could tell within a week of having it that it wouldn't be practical long term. Especially at food time!

My mum has offered to buy us another small cage, suggesting linking the two- which is very kind as space is the main reason they aren't already inside already!

Could she get this one and us link it to our current hutch? Do you think this would provide them with enough space?

Ferplast Rabbit and Guinea Pig Cage 100 | Free P&P £29+ at zooplus!

It seems silly to get the same one we already have for more money if this one is the same size floor plan and could be attached just as well. Does anyone know if the sides come off this model? I know it does on our blue one (top link).

Does anyone have any photos of cages joined? I think I saw one on the main cage photo post but haven't seen any others! I would love to see photos of ladders or tubes used to join them!

Sorry I have waffled on! I just want to make sure I invest in the right things before making the change. Thanks everyone!

Ah the link doesn't seem to be working, but thank you for recommending!

Hello :) I currently have two Ferplast 120 cages joined together with a bridge across the two ends so the pigs can run from one side to the other. For some reason the link you posted isn't working! But I'll take a photo of my cage set-up and post it on here so you can get the idea. One of the cages is an old style ferplast that I got in around 2006, and the other is one I bought earlier this year when we had unexpected babies to cater for! The ends of each can be lifted up but because the new style cage's opening at the front is much larger and the whole thing opens fully, it is a bit of a pain and means I can't open the one side of the front opening without the whole cage structure collapsing.. the old style cage just has a smaller door flap in the middle of the front, rather than the whole of the front opening.. so if you had two of the new style cages, I don't know how well it would work... I don't know if this is making any sense at all but I'll show you some photos which might explain my ramblings!

Though as has been said above, a ferplast 120 would be fine for two pigs. I have 2 120s attached because I have 4 guinea pigs (and unfortunately C&C grids wouldn't work in the space we have!)

Ok so here is the bridge between the two, and the two ends lift up and can rest on the top :)

The one on the left is my older cage:

And the right is the new cage. The front is divided into two and because the left hand side of the front is basically supporting this side and keeping it upright, I can only open the right hand side of the front. So if you had two of these it might be a bit awkward. You'd probably be better with one of these instead, as you only have two pigs :) I can recommend ferplast, I've been using their cages for years! Hope this helps! (Sorry if I've just confused matters!)

Thank you - that is really helpful. The one I have at the moment, you can unclip all the mesh sides, so I could just remove the end side (similarly to the way yours are swung up leaving the gap). Access is via the top of the cage or a small door in the side.

I could get a 120 but I would still like to join it to the other cage - as I believe they would be happier with the maximum amount of space I can give them!

Thank you x

I have the same setup, with 3 sows. One of mine is terminally ill and has bad days, so it is ideal for me as i can simply close the cages off and she has her own space where i can monitor her inputs and outputs properly. I have the flexible log arch as a bridge, with a towel wrapped around it and tied with bobbles underneath to keep it taught. This is so their toes dont get caught in the gaps. Their hay trays are back to back at the side of the bridge incase anyone falls, they will have a soft landing! This has never happened as the towel provides excellent grip. The log arch is an excellent bridge as it is flexible and long enough that is isnt too steep- my 6yr 8month heart piggy with mild arthritis manages it perfectly well. @Melanie07 cable ties sort the collapsing door problem. Although is tricky finding the correct way that all doors can move etc!

However i would definately purchase a larger cage than the one u have to join together as 2 boars do need alot of space. They will still need lots of floor time to prevent any domestics!

Heres my setup, although a different house lay out to maximise space. My 2 healthier sows have free roam of the room every day for a few hours to give them extra excercise.

No problem! I initially had a 120 and a 100 joined together so that could work fine I imagine (one of the surprise babies was a boy and we had to separate him before we got him neutered and he was in the 100 for a while alone; but once they could all go together I got another 120). They really like running across and hiding under the bridge too!

Thank you, it's great seeing photos of your set up!

I think I will go for the 120 attached to my current cage. I hope this one can be opened one end to join my one Skyline Maxi XXL Small Pet Cage | Free P&P £29+ at zooplus!
