I'm kind of upset. I had posted last week that Linney had a nosebleed, which my mom thought might have been a hay poke. My daughter woke me up this morning and let me know that she had a nosebleed again. I got up and got the bleeding stopped (didn't take too long, about a half hour, maybe.) Bright red blood from what looked like both nostrils. I managed to get her into the vet, as they had a cancellation, but came out without much information. The vet said it could be anything from a malignant tumour to a benign polyp or a simple bump (no one really saw the bleeding get started.) They offered to x-ray to look for masses, but said that the x-ray likely would not be diagnostic anyhow (really no way to really tell a malignant soft tissue mass from a benign one on x-ray) and said that as there would not be much they could do to treat either, it likely wouldn't change the prognosis/treatment. They did listen to her lungs and heart (both fine) and fell her body all over for lumps/masses (no lumps or masses, but she has lost some muscle mass even though her weight is still normal.) We are just to watch her and see how she progresses and how her quality of life is. Right now she still eats and is happy and active. I'm glad it's the summer so she can go to the cottage and eat the clover and do all the other stuff she enjoys. I guess with an older pet you always know that time is limited, but it sucks being told that time may be limited, even though with an almost 6-year-old pig it's something that isn't far from your mind anyhow.
