Hi I hope somebody might be able to give me some advice.
I found one of our young boars this evening listless, lying on one side in his house. When he tried to walk he was very unsteady on his feet. He will lift his head when I speak to him but makes no attempt to move for food. He seemed absolutely fine earlier today. I will ring the vets first thing in the morning but hoped someone may have some advice about what I can do for him.
Thanks.

Is there anyway you can get him to emergency vets?
If he has stopped eating then you will need to hand feed him either recovery food if you have or mash up pellets with cool boiled water on a teaspoon. Do you have any syringes at home without the needle to syringe feed him? It is vital that you keep his guts going x

I am very sorry, but it looks like he's either had a heart attack or a stroke, or is having acute heart failure.
Please contact your out-of-hours vet and speak to them about their advice re. bringing him in asap; this is an emergency! You should be able to find the contact number via your regular vet's answering machine.

Keep him otherwise as comfy and warm as you can and try to hand feed and water him unless he is very emphatically refusing it (but that usually means that his body is closing down). Otherwise you want to keep the guts going; little but often is best.

Well he's home having been checked out by the vet and given various injections (antibiotics, anti inflammatories and painkillers, and some fluid I think). The vet was unsure as to what the problem was and said to see how he was in the morning and bring him back if there's no improvement. He's perked up a bit and has been sitting eating hay, I'll try and syringe feed him some mushed up pellets too. Here's hoping for a steady improvement....

Fingers firmly crossed! I hope that your little boy is going to improve again.
