Hi all! I am getting ready to start looking for a friend for my piggie, and I am wanting to build a C&C cage for them. Unfortunately I only have a store bought cage at the moment :( so panda is used to having her whole cage covered with bedding instead of having a litter box in the corner somewhere (although she does tend to do her business in the same general area). How do I go about training her to use a litter box once I switch to the C&C cage?

Great to hear you are looking for a friend for Panda. Best of luck with any attempt at litter training, a couple of members have vaguely managed it I think but my lot just go whenever and whereever they please... usually while they are eating :))

My three girls are more or less litter trained .I have a c&c cage with fleece. At one end I have my litter trays with newspaper, aubiose then hay.I have a fleece pegged over the cage and this encourages them to use them.Saves me a lot of work.Still a fair few pops round the cage but just the odd wee.Hope this helps.

I waited to see where they were peeing and pooping, then put a litter tray in that corner. I put a puppy pad in the bottom, then filled the tray with hay.

I think Cookie uses the litter tray, and Peanut uses the opposite corner. There is no tray in Peanut's corner, but the puppy pad and cloth I put over the top seem to do the trick. The only other places they poop are under their logs or their snuggle sack. No pees anywhere other than their toilet corners :)

Changed Spike and Peanut over to fleece today from wood shavings. Introduced them to fleece by putting it on the floor when they were out roaming for the last 3 days. They pop corned all over the cage this evening when I put them back in, they seem to approve of their new look home. Put a box in Spike's toilet corner with shavings in it as this was what he was used to using, he's now asleep in it, Peanut just uses wherever he is standing to wee and poo!
