can you litter train guinea pigs if so how
I would like to litter train my guinea pig as hes very messy and eats the bedding that he's urinated on

Difficult one. I found that my first piggies were litter trained. Best advice, they like doing it in corners, on top of hay and by food so they can poop and eat at the same time! Nowt like us hoomins!

I have my two girls on fleece and give them 32litre underbed storage boxes with hemp based bedding and loads of hay. I change them every couple of days. I also put extra wee pads, ie mini cage liners in the area where they like to wee and poo the most.

They are not completely toilet trained but pretty good.

They naturally graze and wee and poo as they go, like cows and horses. The bigger the cage the easier it is to keep clean.

Hope you find a way to encourage your boy to be tidier.

it's not possible to fully litter train guinea pigs. The most you can hope for is placing the litter tray beneath their food/hay as they will wee as they eat. This will also catch some poos but you will still have to spot clean the stray poos daily. They will still wee in other places occasionally but the majority is where they eat.

As others have said the larger the cage the easier it is to keep clean ironically.

at the moment I have a pet store cage but its pretty big, I am getting an outdoor hutch but I'm waiting to get the go ahead from the vet to join my two males together because I don't want one being alone outside

I've put 2 trays of hay in each c and c cage, they've started using that a lot!
